Your Role:

The AOD Family Reunification Clinician works within a dynamic AOD & Youth Services team who are part of the Eastern Melbourne AOD catchment and work extensively with other specialist external stakeholders.

As a Family Reunification Order Practitioner, you will work with families referred by Child Protection services, focusing on parents affected by substance use who have children under family reunification or interim orders.

Your responsibilities include providing counseling and delivering Care and Recovery services, with the primary goal of addressing substance use issues to support successful family reunification.

The role is responsible for assessment and counselling, and care and recovery to parents who are required to comply with AOD treatment conditions as part of their child’s family reunification order.  

The key purpose of the program is counselling with a focus on practical and emotional goal-focused support (including home-based support) to a caseload of families including children, parents and other carers. We work to reduce AOD related harms to individuals and their families by conducting assessments and providing a range of counselling and care and recovery interventions. 

 

About You:

  • Demonstrated experience in AOD assessment, treatment planning, counselling and case management.

  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Ability to develop client treatment plans (collaboratively with clients) and manage clients in accordance with those plans as well as undertake therapeutic, child and family interventions in groups, families and with individuals.

  • An understanding of how to work with mandated clients and/or individuals that have experienced trauma or been involved in the Child Protection or justice system

  • Experience in the provision of assessment and counselling services preferably with AOD or dual diagnosis client

  • Experience in therapeutic approaches and proven ability to effectively work with people and families experiencing problematic alcohol and other drugs use in a respectful, compassionate and positive manner.

 

Preferred qualifications: 

• Tertiary qualifications to Bachelor or Diploma level in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling or Behavioural Sciences or equivalent.

 

Required: 

• Certificate IV in AOD or have completed the required competencies (or able to complete within the first 12-24 months of employment - see position description for more details)

 

Remuneration and benefits:

  • SCHADS level 6 which starts at $106,387.
  • Negotiable dependent upon experience in a similar role or current level.
  • Full time hours, 5 days per week, 1.0, 38 hours.
  • Office days at Box Hill close to public transport.
