About the opportunity

The Inner East Navigator Program is delivered in partnership between Uniting, Victorian Aboriginal Child Care Agency.

The program utilises a trauma informed, culturally safe assertive case management model to respond to challenges experienced by young people aged 12 – 17 years with the goal of re-engaging disengaged learners in education.

The Navigator Program utilises a capability approach that understands how multiple characteristics can interact to compound educational disengagement that can result in disconnection and a lack of a sense of purpose and self worth for young people.  This amplifies service barriers and exacerbates social and economic disadvantage, and social isolation.

As Team Leader, you will oversee all aspects of referral, entry, engagement and allocation, including:

  • Delivering and managing intake services, including initial risk assessments
  • Liaison and collaborating with partner agencies and funding body
  • Supervision and support of 5 staff members
  • Community education
About you

To be successful in your application, you will meet the person specification in the position description, including having a Bachelor level degree in social work, psychology, social science or a related discipline.

You will also have:

  • Previous supervisory experience within the child, youth and family welfare sector
  • Knowledge of family services, child protection and/or out of home care, including relevant legislation and regulations
  • An understanding of the barriers experienced by disengaged learners
  • Proven ability to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders and develop and implement a new program initiative
  • Knowledge and understanding of trauma informed and culturally competent practice, including knowledge and application of therapeutic parenting practices
