About the opportunity

The School Attendance Support Program (SASP) is an innovative program delivered across government primary schools within the City of Casey and Cardinia Shire. The program supports at-risk young people to engage in education with the aim of improving school attendance and facilitating student, family, school and community integration.

As a Family Engagement Practitioner, you will work collaboratively with primary schools to identify and engage at-risk students with significant school attendance issues. The role will undertake thorough risk and needs assessments of children and families referred to the program and provide support to families on the holding list awaiting allocation. The Family Engagement Worker will also provide information to schools and families on referral pathways to other relevant services such as The Orange Door or Family Services.

About you

To be successful in your application you will meet the person specification in the position description, including having a degree qualification in social work, psychology or a related discipline.

You will also have:

  • Demonstrated experience within the child, youth and family welfare sector
  • Knowledge of child development, the barriers to school attendance and related issues
  • An understanding of the Child Protection System, Children Youth and Families Act 2005 and Best Interests Framework
  • Strong risk assessment and risk management skills
  • Excellent communication, organisation and time management skills
