About the Program
The objective of family services is to promote the safety, stability and development of vulnerable children, young people and their families and to build child, family and community capacity and resilience.
Your new role
In a typical day, a Family Services Practitioner you might:
- Use a creative approach to arrange a visit with a reluctant new family
- Build rapport to carry out a strengths and risk assessment in the client’s home or child’s school
- Review with your supervisor plans to support a family’s goals
- Consult with Child Protection
- Discuss a difficult case with your team members in a Reflective Practice meeting

Your skills and experience
You will bring:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology or equivalent area
- Demonstrated ability as a practitioner in the child, youth and family welfare field
- A commitment to the family-centered approach, and the family strengthening and empowerment models of practice.
- An understanding of the ‘Best Interests’ framework and CYFA 2005 is desirable
- Ability to engage families and to provide outreach services, sometimes in a difficult or stressful context
