Why Your Role Matters:
The Educational Solutions Developer plays a critical role in innovating the Education Excellence Portfolio’s operations by designing, developing, and deploying digital automation solutions. The role collaborates with educational developers, professional and technical teams, as well as academic colleagues, to deliver technologically- enabled operational efficiencies that positively impact ADA staff and students’ higher education experience.

The position reports to the Educational Development Manager and supports multiple strategically aligned projects across the Education Excellence Portfolio, and has no direct reports.

Responsibilities Summary:

  • Lead the automation of key workflows, including but not limited to student management, feedback processing, and data reporting purposes, to improve efficiency and productivity across the Faculty's education excellence initiatives.
  • Manage projects and liaise with stakeholders to define system requirements, features, and functionality, ensuring alignment with the Faculty's strategic priorities and standards.
  • Work within agile methodologies and UNSW guidelines throughout the solution lifecycle: design, feasibility, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance. Make it matter.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the central IT team to ensure compliance with data policies, cyber security and university-wide digital guardrails, and provide feedback and suggestions for improvement.
  • Develop frameworks or assist in transitioning projects into business-as-usual operations, ensuring sustainability and compliance of digital solutions.
  • Drive continuous improvement and innovation by researching and implementing new technologies to keep the portfolio’s digital services agile and forward-thinking.
  • Provide consultation and mentorship to peers exploring digital solutions, as well as to student partners contributing to the design and development of those solutions.
  • Train and support users on new tools and systems implemented, and develop and maintain documentation, guidelines, and resources related to the development and use of the low code development tool suite and other educational technologies in the Faculty.

Skills and Experience Summary:

  • Relevant tertiary qualification in IT, Computer Science, or a related field, with proven experience in developing and deploying custom digital solutions for non-technical stakeholders, ideally within higher education or similarly complex operational environments.
  • Experience with developer tools such as Microsoft Power Platform to create scalable, user-friendly automation solutions focused on productivity and user experience, with the ability to acquire and adapt new skills as required by the project.
  • Strong understanding of software development, lifecycle and project management methodologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, particularly in helping stakeholders understand the potential and limitations of digital tools while guiding them through solution architecture.
  • A continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to identify gaps and opportunities to enhance business performance and customer experience.
  • Strong time management skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and adjust to shifting priorities.
  • Ability to provide both hands-on support and strategic consultation, balancing guidance with empowering others to experiment.
  • Demonstrated experience developing and implementing systems or programs requiring integration of theoretical or technical knowledge in a complex, specialised environment.
