Why your role matters

The Precinct Manager will lead a team of building managers to oversee and strategically direct a diverse multi-million dollar portfolio of the University’s assets. This role ensures effective service delivery through external contracts, coordinating maintenance and repairs to minimize operational disruption.

It aligns the management and enhancement of building assets with UNSW’s strategy and world-class environment initiatives. The Precinct Manager also provides specialist advice to the Head of Building Management and Senior Manager, Building Maintenance, on building performance and services.

This position reports to the Head of Building Management and supervises several direct reports.

About the Role

The successful applicant will have demonstrated experience in and be expected to undertake the following duties:

  • Provide strategic direction and management across the assigned university building assets to ensure that priorities are met in accordance with agreed management programs and budgets.
  • Monitor and report on the quality and effectiveness of EM external service delivery in accordance with established Service Level Agreements.
  • Attend regular contract meetings with Estate Managements key service delivery partners and their respective Discipline Leads / Contract Managers.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to the Head of Building Management on EM processes, procedures and policy which impact on the business delivery.
  • Drive the implementation of complex building projects and minor refurbishment works with key stakeholders, from project conception through brief development, design and construction phases, cost control to hand over and transition to ongoing maintenance.
  • Project manage building improvement, refurbishment and minor works projects within agreed budgets, quality delivery parameters, and client expectations.
  • Provide a high level of leadership support and management advice to the Building Maintenance and Management teams on facilities management, maintenance, repairs, and minor refurbishment works for the assigned assets.
  • Lead the Building Facilities Management team to develop the strategic asset management plan (SAMP) working alongside key stakeholders in Estate Management, annual facilities management performance and improvement plans.
  • Support and deputise for the Head of Building Management as and when required.
  • Close collaboration with the Computerised Maintenance Management systems administrator to ensure the accuracy of plant and equipment data in Archibus. To include the management of pre-planned and reactive work orders ensuring that relevant information is added and then completed/closed out in a timely manner.
  • Build professional relationships with Faculties, Schools and Divisional stakeholders and ensure that effective channels of communication are maintained. This includes representing EM to the client and the client to EM on all facilities related issues resulting in a high level of satisfaction.
  • Maintain professional working relationships and effective communication with service providers and stakeholders.

About You

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent facilities management qualifications and/or experience with a minimum 7 years’ relevant experience in building management and FM service delivery.
  • Extensive experience in contract and contractor management, service contract management and staff management.
  • Previous experience in the Tertiary Education Sector, Major Hospital, health systems to include clinical lab spaces or public infrastructure sectors or transferrable environments, is highly desirable.
  • Highly developed leadership qualities, interpersonal, organisational and communication skills with excellent track record in providing high quality customer service. This includes a strong understanding of FM as a value-added service, including the ability to work in a collaborative effort to create opportunities and develop solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability or desire to work towards developing and implementing innovative approaches and continuous improvement initiatives with relevant new technologies within the facilities management industry.
  • Extensive operational and facilities management experience with building services and infrastructure, project management, financial management and prioritisation in a large and complex property portfolio.
  • Excellent negotiation and problem-solving skills with a proven capacity to exercise initiative and develop solutions.
  • Working knowledge of relevant building standards, such as NSW Codes of Practice, Australian Standards, Work Health and Safety Act and Regulations 2011, Building Code of Australia etc.
  • Ability and capacity to direct and monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the safety management system.
