The Protective Services function of the EM has three core objectives: ensuring a safe campus environment, protecting people, property, and assets through risk management, and providing professional advice on security and emergency matters.
The Security Systems Officer supports security systems across the University, ensuring they are robust and effective in protecting the UNSW community. This includes managing access control systems, testing alarms, monitoring system faults, and maintaining the master key register. The Security Systems Officer reports to the Security Technical Services Manager and has no direct reports.
About the Role
You will be required to undertake and have experience in the following areas of expertise:
- Program, review and provide access recommendations (where required) on access permissions, business rules and access groups within the Gallagher system to ensure they remain current.
- Monitor and review Alarm Viewer to ensure Critical/Very High/High priority alarms are reported as faults, while maintaining a log of follow up actions.
- Schedule, facilitate and document critical lifesaving alarm testing with clients as per procedure to ensure systems are operating effectively.
- Conduct regular user audits including checks on various operators to ensure cards are created and encoded correctly maintaining the integrity of the database and system.
- Update and maintain floor plans in both Gallagher and Genetec, ensuring all newly installed security equipment is accurately mapped and the floor plans remain current.
- Identify inefficiencies, inconsistencies or opportunities for improvement within security related policies and procedures.
- Provide system reports to authorised persons upon request in accordance with established procedures.
- Log reactive maintenance requests with the contractor and ensure completion in line with contract requirements.
- Develop, maintain and ensure compliance of the Master Key Register, conducting regular master key audits. Review identified or reported breaches and provide recommendations to UNSW Security Management.
- Assist Security Systems Coordinators in managing and delivering projects, ensuring timelines, requirements and security standards are met.
About You
- A certification/diploma in security risk management desirable and/or relevant experience in a similar role.
- Currently holds, or a willingness to work towards obtaining a NSW Security Licence Class 2AC.
- Demonstrated understanding for managing access, programming and reporting tasks within Gallagher System.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- High-level critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to provide a high standard of fault analysis within Gallagher system (or similar).
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team and have high-level organisational skills with a proven ability to manage multiple tasks and projects.
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
