About the Role

The Position Management Taskforce is a newly formed team at UNSW, established to manage the end-to-end lifecycle of positions across the University — from creation and maintenance to disestablishment. This team plays a vital role in maintaining the integrity of position data, supporting effective organisational design, and enabling strategic workforce planning.

Within this team, the Position Management Support Analyst offers critical analytical and operational support, collaborating closely with HR and system administrators to streamline processes and ensure data accuracy. Reporting to the Position Management Lead, the Position Establishment Specialist is responsible for the day-to-day operations of position management, working with key stakeholders — including managers, business partners, and finance — to ensure positions are created and maintained with purpose and alignment.

The successful applicant will be skilled in:

  • Supporting the delivery of position establishment and maintenance workflows, ensuring timely processing of requests and updates.
  • Providing analytical insights and reporting on position data to inform workforce planning and strategic initiatives.
  • Documenting and improving business processes, identifying opportunities for automation and streamlining.
  • Developing position lifecycle guides, tools and communications to support HR and business users.
  • Assisting with audit preparation by ensuring position data meets compliance and reporting standards.
  • Collaborating with system owners on enhancements, including user acceptance testing (UAT) and feedback gathering.
  • Monitoring and resolving data quality issues, ensuring alignment with governance frameworks.
  • Contributing to the continuous improvement of user experience through process refinement and support materials.
  • Providing input into position lifecycle KPIs and reporting dashboards in collaboration with analytics teams.
  • Maintaining position management documentation and ensure alignment with governance frameworks.
  • Collaborating with HR Systems and other teams to troubleshoot data issues and improve system functionality.

About You

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or equivalent level of knowledge gained through a combination of education, training and/or experience in a similar role.
  • A minimum of 3 years professional experience in business systems analysis or equivalent business experience, including well-developed business and needs analysis skills, ideally within People and Culture environments.
  • Well-developed skills in the use of standard office toolsets including word processors, spreadsheets, drawing/diagramming tools (e.g. Visio), presentation tools (e.g. PowerPoint) and project management tools (e.g. MS Project).
  • Previous experience working in an ERP application development environment (either PeopleSoft, Oracle, SAP or similar) and/or a web services environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to success in providing effective solutions to business needs.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain strong customer relationships with a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to show initiative with strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to work autonomously and as part of a collaborative and multifaceted team
