The Senior Cloud Data Analyst delivers trusted analytics, insights and reporting across UNSW’s hybrid cloud and enterprise data environments to support operational and strategic decision-making. The role works with UNSW IT, Faculties and Divisions to translate business needs into governed datasets, dashboards and analytical outputs that improve performance, transparency and service outcomes. Working within UNSW’s data governance, privacy and security frameworks, the role ensures data is accurate, reliable and fit for purpose. The position has no direct reports and achieves outcomes through a high degree of autonomy, strategic influence, and collaboration. Using sound judgement and expert advisory capability across multiple stakeholders.
Specific accountabilities for this role include:
• Deliver high-quality analytics and insights using hybrid cloud and enterprise platforms, including leading the design and evolution of analytics approaches across domains.
• Develop, maintain and optimise SQL queries, curated datasets, semantic models and reporting assets, setting standards and guiding the team in best practice.
• Design and deliver dashboards, reports and analytical outputs aligned to business requirements and agreed data definitions, with accountability for enterprise-level consistency and scalability.
• Analyse data to identify trends, issues, risks and opportunities, and provide clear recommendations, including strategic advice to senior stakeholders to inform planning and prioritisation.
• Work with stakeholders across UNSW IT, Faculties and Divisions to translate business questions into analytical requirements, taking a leading role in shaping and challenging requirements to align with organisational priorities.
• Partner with technical teams to ensure data solutions are secure, scalable and sustainable.
• Apply data quality, validation and reconciliation practices to ensure outputs are accurate and trusted and drive continuous improvement of data quality frameworks and controls.
• Ensure analytics activities comply with UNSW privacy, security, governance and records requirements, providing expert guidance on compliance and risk mitigation.
• Contribute to consistent data standards, KPI definitions and reporting practices across UNSW IT.
• Identify opportunities to improve reporting, automate repeatable analytics processes and reduce manual effort, leading initiatives that deliver efficiency and capability uplift at scale.
• Communicate findings clearly to technical and non-technical audiences, including senior stakeholders, providing high-level insights and influencing decision-making at Faculty and Division level.
Who you are:
• Demonstrated experience working with cloud-based and enterprise platforms in complex environments, including contributing to or influencing enterprise-scale data or analytics programs.
• Strong SQL and data analysis skills, with experience developing datasets, semantic models and reporting outputs.
• Experience designing and delivering dashboards and reports using tools such as Power BI, Tableau or Looker.
• Proven ability to analyse complex data and translate findings into practical recommendations, including providing strategic insights to senior stakeholders.
• Strong understanding of data governance, privacy, security and access management principles, and their application in large, complex organisations.
• Experience applying data quality, validation and reconciliation practices.
• Solid ability to communicate insights clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Extensive experience working collaboratively with business stakeholders, data engineers and IT teams.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving and prioritisation skills.
• An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
• Knowledge of health & safety (psychosocial and physical) responsibilities and commitment to attending relevant health and safety training
