Position Summary
A Simulated Patient (SP) Actor (Level 5) provides support for medical students to learn and be assessed in a safe and controlled environment, which replicates aspects of real life situations. The SP is required to learn a complex script provided to them and perform the role accurately and consistently for multiple students. Scripts may illustrate different medical interviewing scenarios and may detail medical, family and occupational history, emotions, behaviours, disease signs and symptoms.
This role will:
- Participate in simulated clinical assessments in the BMed-MD program.
- Support the delivery of experiences in schools, on campus or online.
- Follow instructions from the relevant School, script, and Exam Supervisors on the day of exams.
- Learn the script provided in order to play the patient role consistently to enable a fair and objective assessment of each student's skills.
- Use judgement to solve standard problems using previous learned methods, procedures, precedent, practices and experience.
- Actively participate in on the job training for relevant duties.
- Align with and actively demonstrate the UNSW Values in Action: Our Behaviours and the UNSW Code of Conduct.
- Cooperate with all health and safety policies and procedures of the university and take all reasonable care to ensure that your actions or omissions do not impact on the health and safety of yourself or others.
A person engaged is generally expected to have the following skills and experience:
- Relevant tertiary qualification in acting or equivalent competency gained through any other combination of education, training and experience.
- Previous experience in educational or health care training, role-playing and communications training. Capacity to memorise and perform a role accurately and consistently for prolonged periods of time is essential.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate to a wide variety of people.
- Strong organisational and time management skills
- An understanding of and commitment to UNSW’s aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.
