Why Your Role Matters:
The Research Associate (Level A) will contribute to UNSW’s research effort and develop their research expertise through defined projects in their field.
Based at the Centre for Social Research in Health, the role will undertake and support HIV prevention research, including work on a 5-year NHMRC-funded project connected to the GBQ+ Community Periodic Surveys. These repeated cross-sectional surveys of gay and bisexual men and non-binary people inform HIV and sexual health programs.
You will support the investigator team and partner organisations, contribute to an active publication strategy, organise and manage project meetings, and take responsibility for subprojects within the project.
The role reports to Professor Martin Holt and has no direct reports.
Responsibilities Summary:
- Contribute independently and collaboratively to research that enhances the quality of research outcomes in the discipline area.
- Conduct research and contribute to scholarly outputs recognised by peers.
- Undertake research projects under the guidance of a research leader and contribute to the development of research activities.
- Support dissemination of research outcomes through appropriate channels and outlets.
- Undertake research activities including surveys, literature reviews, interviews and analysis using appropriate research methods.
- Participate in and/or present at conferences and workshops relevant to the project as required.
- Assist with supervision of research students in the research area where required.
- Contribute to the execution of an NHMRC Partnership Project focused on behavioural surveillance and HIV prevention among gay and bisexual men and non-binary people.

Skills and Experience Summary:
- A PhD in public health, social science, or a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
- Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
- Demonstrated ability to undertake high quality academic research related to HIV prevention and conduct independent research with limited supervision.
- Demonstrated track record of publications and conference presentations relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships with researchers and external partners, including health departments and community organisations.
- Highly developed interpersonal and organisational skills, including planning and running project meetings.
- Demonstrated ability to analyse qualitative interview and/or quantitative survey data using appropriate methods and software, e.g. Stata and NVivo.
- Experience conducting research with gay and bisexual men and organisations that work with this community.
