Research Ethics & Compliance Officer supports UNSW’s research ethics and compliance activities, with a particular focus on animal research ethics. The role coordinates and supports ethics committees, provides specialist advice to researchers and other stakeholders, and helps ensure research complies with relevant legislation, policies and regulatory requirements.

A key part of the role is improving animal ethics processes, guidance and training, including online resources and face-to-face training. You’ll also contribute to the development of policies, procedures and strategic and operational plans aimed at improving the quality of animal research and animal care across UNSW.

The role reports to the Manager, Research Ethics & Compliance and has no direct reports.

About you:

You have a relevant tertiary qualification and or experience in animal research, including a strong understanding of the ethical considerations involved in developing and conducting animal research projects.

You’ll also be able to demonstrate your comprehensive knowledge of animal research ethics legislation, codes and compliance frameworks, together with strong analytical, critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills to assess ethics applications, interpret complex requirements and develop practical solutions to ethical and compliance issues.

Strong written and verbal communication, attention to detail and stakeholder management skills are also essential, as the role provides expert advice and guides researchers through the ethical review process.

The role also requires the ability to provide high-quality secretariat support to ethics committees, analyse and apply research policies and guidelines, maintain accurate electronic records, and work in accordance with UNSW policies, values and health and safety requirements.
