Your opportunity
Join our in-house Development, Design & Construction team and play a pivotal role in shaping the future of 42 Westfield destinations across Australia and New Zealand. As a Hydraulic Engineer, you will support a diverse portfolio of leasing, capital, and development projects—ranging from tenant-specific hydraulic compliance to centre-wide infrastructure upgrades. Your expertise will ensure our environments are both compliant and future-ready, minimising disruption while enabling innovation. This role directly supports our purpose of creating extraordinary places, connecting and enriching communities.
Day-to-day you will be responsible for:
- Providing hydraulic design advice and compliance guidance for leasing works, including specialty shops with complex service needs (e.g., gas, trade waste, and treatment devices).
- Supporting capital works such as centre-wide fire hydrant system upgrades with a focus on staging, operational continuity, and minimal impact to retailers.
- Managing overloaded grease trap systems and working closely with local authorities to ensure compliance and negotiate practical outcomes.
- Reviewing development proposals (e.g. restaurant redevelopments, skylight additions, large-scale refurbishments) and advising on hydraulics feasibility and system integration.
- Coordinating with internal stakeholders, consultants, and authorities to ensure timely design delivery and compliance with relevant standards and codes.
This role is permanent, full-time.
What sets you apart
We are seeking a proactive and solutions-focused Hydraulics Engineer with a strong track record in commercial or retail environments. You bring a solid understanding of Australian standards, trade waste requirements, and experience negotiating with water authorities and councils. A degree in Mechanical or Civil Engineering (or related discipline) is essential, and Chartered status or working towards, is preferred.
You will be:
- Strategic – able to think ahead and identify efficient staging or risk mitigation approaches in live environments.
- Commercial – balancing technical excellence with commercial viability and cost-effective delivery.
- Collaborative – engaging confidently with multiple stakeholders and consultants across disciplines.
- Innovative – exploring new materials, treatments, or staging techniques to improve compliance and minimise impact.
