JOB SUMMARY:

Produce and direct the development and implementation of blue-sky, concept and schematic design for Universal Creative projects.  Oversee and manage Show Producing staff for Universal Creative Projects in all project phases, in all locations. In partnership with Attraction Development, develops and manages UPR Long Range Project Plan. Responsible for establishing project strategy, establishing budget and funding resources, analyzing and identifying talent needs, establishing project schedules and communicating all appropriate information to the various business units or divisions. As a member of the Studio Leadership team, responsible for developing the Creative Studio department annual operating budgets, policies and procedures.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Direct Show Producers and Project Teams through design and development and delivery of early project phases (e.g. Blue Sky, Concept, and Schematic Design). Oversee Studio project day-to-day project development activities, deliverables, budgets, schedules and creative design development. Lead the Studio oversight and coordination of project design and creative development activities for all projects.
  • Oversee and support Show Producers and project teams in all locations during all project phases. Liaise with individual park implementation teams on the development of new projects and updating the client parks on status of current projects. Provide ongoing support to UO, USH, USJ, UB, and other project leadership teams. Develops common and consistent tools and processes for Producers and team to use across projects.
  • Responsible for developing development and implementation strategies for future projects and master planning. Represents the Creative Studio in the development and management of the UPR Long Term Project Plan. Represents Creative Studio in senior management updates. 
  • Responsible to develop project work plans, strategies, estimates, budgets, schedules, staffing plans and org charts during the development of initial blue sky, concept, schematic and subsequent project phases.
  • Develops initial project budgets, schedules and work plans for inclusion in capital authorizations for all new projects. 
  • Responsible for the development of scopes of work, RFPs and for negotiating contracts with outside vendors. Monitor outside consultants for compliance with agreements and budgets. Reviews and approves Creative Studio project vendor contracts, commitments and invoices.
  • Responsible for Producer, Associate Producer, and Coordinator recruiting, development and assignments.
  • Stay current on technology, industry, IP, and competition.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Directly supervises all producers, creative studio administrators, and interns. Indirectly supervise: Designers; Creative Resource Manager; Plan room coordinator; Media coordinator. Strong design, production and management portfolio. Must possess good aesthetic and creative judgment. Must be a clear communicator able to collaborate with senior management. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Experience in design management, work planning, budgeting, scheduling, bid package preparation and variety of vendors. Knowledge of theme park technologies including ride, A/V, robotics, engineering, and various show systems. Knowledge of theme park related architectural, project management, organizational, and production/construction practices. Demonstrates ability to lead creative and technical teams on multiple complex attraction projects. Instill a spirit of teamwork and promote staff development. Makes independent choices free from immediate supervision. Possesses solid aesthetic sensibilities and storytelling skills to support the creative process and to facilitate positive and productive communication between all disciplines.

SCOPE:

Non-routine; general policies applied to frequently changing situations. Influences decisions of moderate nature requiring high degree of tact, diplomacy, and maturity.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Theater, Architecture, or similar Arts Management degree preferred or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in (same as BA) preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 

Experience as a senior level producer or creative lead with demonstrated success in theme park, theatrical, media production required.  17 to 20 Years: Experience as a senior level producer or creative lead with demonstrated success in theme park, theatrical, media production preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
