Job Description for Tech II, Props
JOB SUMMARY:
Building and maintaining Entertainment show props and elements. Responsibilities include sculpting, mold making, casting, pigmentation, painting, working with silicone, urethane, latex materials, airbrush usage and techniques, working with hair, feather and fur, and other materials as need. Has knowledge of different prop making materials and tools. At the direction of Management, able to create models and drawings with the use of 3D modeling/design programs and software. Ability to take a drawing package and concept to create functional working show props. Use knowledge of 3D printing process and materials to create rapid prototypes for demonstrations and concept meetings.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Using 3D modeling/design software, create drawings of new or existing Entertainment show elements or props. These drawings can be used to recreate these items.
- Operates rapid prototyping equipment such as 3D printers, CNC machines, and laser cutting to quickly create working show props for demonstrations, concept meetings and use in parks. Maintain equipment, tools, supplies and keeping workstation and area clean.
- Fabrication and repairing various props and molds by utilizing appropriate techniques, materials, and processes.
- Properly assess, mix and apply airbrush and/or faux paint techniques, automotive paint applications as well as wet/dry brush and sponge painting. Also including proper preparation of work to be painted or finished.
- Completion of documentation of work including updating material information and repair logs.
- Perform routine inspections of Entertainment Show props and elements. This can include handheld props and Entertainment set pieces.
- Use basic mechanical and carpentry skills that include the use of various tools for the repair and/or modification of molds, figures and/or props.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Associate degree (AA) preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in related field preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 3-6 years’ experience in maintaining and repair scenic elements and Entertainment show props.
- 3-6 years’ experience with different painting and airbrush techniques.
- 3-5 years’ experience with 3D and design programs.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Accountable to strictly adhere to all policies and procedures, as defined by the Entertainment Department, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.
