JOB SUMMARY:
The Senior Vice President of Environment Health & Safety (EHS) is responsible for overseeing all aspects of environmental, health, and safety operations across Universal Orlando Resort’s portfolio of businesses - domestic, international, and new venture development. This role involves strategic planning, establishing the governance structure and standard operating procedures for operational management, and ensuring the highest standards of safety and environmental compliance. The SVP will lead a diverse team, drive innovation, and ensure profitability while maintaining exceptional guest and team member experiences.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Strategic Leadership & Innovation: Develop, implement, and drive a comprehensive safety and environmental strategic framework to ensure the design, construction, and operation of safe facilities and to reduce the risk of incidents, aligned with the company's goals.
- Collaborate with senior leadership to drive business growth and enhance safety and environmental standards.
- Stay abreast of industry trends and incorporate new ideas to enhance EHS practices.
- Implement new technologies and processes to improve efficiency and safety.
- Provide executive oversight of permit application and renewal activities, as well as conduct negotiations with agencies
- Operational Management: Provide strategic oversight for the site leaders in the day-to-day operations of the EHS department, ensuring compliance with local regulations, record keeping, document management, and global EHS standards.
- Provide leadership and direction to the EHS team, fostering a culture of safety and environmental responsibility.
- Manage EHS-related projects, including new and re-commissioning projects/events.
- Establish metrics, key performance indicators and means of measurement to make decisions and report results to the business on a regular basis.
- Risk Assessment & Mitigation: Establish strategic risk assurance assessment program and process, developing strategies to mitigate identified risks.
- Ensure the proactive identification of key risks and critical mitigating controls.
- Provide technical direction and input on EHS elements of risk assessment and reduction activities.
- Drive alignment with project planning and construction teams to confirm environmental and safety elements are included in project scope and costs.
- Develops KPIs to ensure all destination s/facilities are effectively managing the EHS strategy, driving continuous improvement, and maintaining a safe and compliant workplace.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Liaison and collaborate with park and business leadership related to initiatives, standards, strategic planning, permits, and operating expectations.
- Actively participate in business operations to effectively implement, maintain, and control processes necessary to meet EHS standards and legal requirements.
- Serve as key representative to external agencies and associations as an advocate on behalf of Universal Destinations & Experiences
- Training & Development:
- Analyze EHS training needs and drive the design, delivery, and evaluation of EHS training programs.
- Develop and provide routine performance reports aligned with defined objectives and targets.
- Consult and advise business operations on initiatives, programs, opportunities and problem resolution, as well as maintain regular two-way dialogue to continually enhance effectiveness.
- Drive the identification, implementation, and monitoring of residual risk and critical controls.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health, Safety Management, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in EHS management, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role.
- Proven track record of developing and implementing successful EHS strategies.
- Strong knowledge of local regulations and global EHS standards.
- Experience in driving innovation and continuous improvement in EHS practices.
- Experience within a corporation with a diverse portfolio of businesses and assets, such as production facilities, theme parks, office settings and large campuses, highly preferred.
- Proven track record of building and managing performance metrics, driving business growth, and improving operational efficiency.
- Successful track record building consensus and influencing senior leadership and stakeholders in order to implement strategy and achieve results in times that can be fast-paced, pressurized and of high volume
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Strong financial acumen and experience managing large budgets.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge and understanding of local, state and federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules, regulations and procedures
- Proven ability to build and sustain excellent relationships, through clear and effective communication, with all levels of management across functions and divisions domestically and internationally
- Proven ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports, peers and external clients and vendors in a highly matrix environment
- Able to effectively attract, build, develop, coach and elevate teams
- Ability to make complex decisions with high levels of discretion
- Calm under pressure and able to direct people and teams in emergency or high-stress situation and with rapid problem resolution capabilities
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, on a variety of business topics, with the ability to translate technical information clearly and concisely to business leadership and Team Members of all levels
- Achieve high levels of team performance and effectiveness while meeting financial targets
- Ability to define strategy, scope tasks and set goals and then manage against plan
- Thorough knowledge of emergency response and incident management techniques
- Knowledge of investigative practices, audits and forensic accounting is a plus
- Experience leading large, diverse teams of all generations spanning from front line hourly to VP level talent within a matrixed organization.
