JOB SUMMARY:
The Lighting Programmer is responsible for assisting in design, equipment selection and programming the entertainment show lighting for Projects, Events and Entertainment Venues. In addition, responsibilities may include overseeing a crew to install, operate and strike a lighting plan as directed by the Lighting Manager.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ability to design, draft and implement complex lighting systems.
- Advance ability to perform electrical load calculations.
- Programming of both moving light consoles and conventional style consoles for any type of show whether a small corporate style show, theatrical style, permanent install or a large scale concert.
- Setting up, operating, strike and repair of rented and non-rented gear including but not limited to moving light consoles, moving lights, power distros, motors, motor distribution and trussing.
- Troubleshoot Lighting Systems for large scale concerts, stage shows, corporate meetings and themed events. Troubleshooting can be on equipment such as but not limited to moving light consoles, conventional lighting consoles, moving lights, conventional fixtures, networking equipment, communication systems, power distribution equipment, DMX distribution systems.
- Install permanent and semi-permanent set-ups of lighting gear for various shows and productions.
- Delegates work assignments among qualified crew-members. Communicates performance expectations in an effort to ensure proper completion of tasks; provides feedback for recognition and performance improvement.
- Ensures proper completion of documentation such as lighting plots, as-built lighting information or operating S.O.P.’s as they pertain to the design. Performs maintenance, repairs and/or document and send off for repair any broken element of in-house lighting gear or rented gear as necessary.
- Communicate with management on daily update on crew and task completion
- Leading a crew on install, implementation, operation, strike, repairs per lighting design & supervisory direction inclusive of but not limited to live shows, projects, events, corporate convention and entertainment venues
- Performs job duties as described in non-lead job description. Maintains and shares job knowledge, assists in developing employees. Stays current with changing technology and growing developments in the field of Entertainment Lighting.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- High school degree or GED is required. Technical school is required.
- Associate’s degree (AA) is preferred. Associate’s degree (AA) preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 10+ Years in the Entertainment Lighting Field preferred;
- or equivalent combination of education and experience.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Programming abilities on various Wholehog OS consoles, Grand MA and theatrical ETC consoles
- Drafting abilities in Nemetschek Vectorworks (Ver. 15 and newer)
- Ability to lead crews of four and larger
- Understand signal flow and implementation of protocol “DMX E1.11, Entertainment Technology — USITT DMX512-A — Asynchronous Serial Digital Data Transmission Standard for Controlling Lighting Equipment and Accessories”
- Read and understand a traditional Lighting Plot
- Understand common electrical use and practices in Entertainment/Theatrical Lighting
- Stay current on industry trends
