JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the safe operation of themed, unmanned aerial equipment (drone) utilized in Entertainment offerings on Universal Destinations and Experiences property. Serves as the Pilot in Command (PIC) for flight missions of themed Entertainment drones as directed. Works with maintenance teams, engineering, quality, security, and legal departments as needed to maintain compliance with UDX drone safety and FAA regulations regarding UDX airspace. Documents each flight including flight characteristics, and other relevant data related to the deployment. Performs routine, basic daily inspections and maintenance required for daily operation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as the Pilot in Command (PIC) for unmanned aerial vehicle equipment (drone) via either a pre-programmed GPS or manual operation flight path to support Entertainment shows, offerings and projects by working with cooperation with Entertainment Technical Management, Show Direction and other Internal partners.
  • Perform pre-flight and post-flight inspections of aerial equipment in accordance with OEM documentation and UDX standards. Responsible for the safe operation of aerial equipment. Partner with Technical Entertainment management as necessary for any concerns regarding inspection or safe operations.
  • Ensures proper documentation is kept and completed. Including, but not limited to, documenting and recording flight characteristics, images, video and other relevant telemetry data from the drone for each flight mission. Update information regarding new FAA regulations and UDX standards.
  • Responsible for the safe operation and any basic maintenance of the aerial equipment and compliance with UDX and FAA standards for drone use. Escalate any issues outside of defined scope to appropriate parties.
  • Effectively communicate and coordinate with visual observers, other departments and crafts as needed. Work with Technical Services Ride and Show team, engineering, quality, security and legal departments to maintain compliance with UDX drone safety and FAA regulations regarding UDX airspace.
  • Maintain FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate and assigned venue PQS qualifications. Complete drone training prescribed by Universal subject matter experts.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • High school degree or GED required.
  • Associate’s degree, equivalent or technical school is preferred or equivalent industry experience.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of experience in the aviation industry or flying aerial equipment preferred.
  • Experience with predictive technology preferred, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • FAA Part 107 license required for position.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required to operate company vehicles.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • The individual must have an excellent ability to maintain focus and alertness while performing a task and the physical dexterity to pilot aerial equipment in tight spaces.
  • Professional communication, schedule flexibility, leadership, critical thinking, complete focus on delicate tasks, knowledge of the aviation and drone industry, knowledge of predictive maintenance industry.
