Universal Horror Unleashed is a terrifyingly unique experience that will bring haunts to Las Vegas year-round. Located at Area 15 is the heart of horror – we would love to have you haunting alongside us! With the nature of this experience comes a unique working environment. JOB SUMMARY:
Responsible for the daily operation of the SFX Makeup, Prosthetics, & Wigs Department’s team and functions including but not limited to maintaining cleanliness, safety procedures, and execution including pre-production, tests and fittings, rehearsals, production, and strike. Responsible for tracking and maintaining labor, stock, and materials, as well as sourcing, cost estimates, and purchasing for current and future projects for seasonal offerings or special events, either in-house or with vendors. Oversees the integrity of the makeup, prosthetics, and wigs and quality of the department and its products are in alignment with Universal standards. Adheres to OSHA requirements and Universal safety standards.
JOB RESPONSIBILITES:
- Responsible for the daily operation of the SFX Makeup, Prosthetics, & Wigs department; ensures that all standard operating procedures are followed. Maintains shop organization, safety, and cleanliness. Communicates with the Sr. Manager and Supervisor of Costume to ensure both branches of the Costume and Makeup Department are in sync. Partners with Entertainment leadership in facilitating rotational schedules based on costume availability and sustainment efforts.
- Responsible for scheduling including onboarding, training, and daily operations, daily assignments, and tracking of work while monitoring quality control for all applications and maintenance produced by team. Performs proper and timely administration of daily payroll/time keeping. Coaches, monitors and tracks work processes and instruct daily techniques and procedures. Maintains staffing levels and hires new team members as needed. Communicates consistently by giving feedback for both recognition and improvement daily. Maintains open communication to maintain positive team member relations and partners with Human Resources for employee relations concerns. Provides counseling, coaching and timely performance reviews for Hourly Team Members.
- Maintains SFX makeup, prosthetics, and wigs inventory as well as all department materials and supplies through the designated inventory system and upholds quality control to ensure the consistency, integrity, safety, comfort, and guest satisfaction of the approved looks as they are being worn on stage.
- Trains and works closely with the performing artists in the application of their own beauty makeup and wigs while preserving the integrity of each look. Assists Performers with the removal of wigs and prosthetic hair pieces as needed.
- Researches sources/vendors for both requested and standard use equipment, supplies, and materials. Provides alternative or substitutions when applicable and assists internal requests with select requirements. Identifies cost saving opportunities when possible.
- Supports leadership with creating and maintaining makeup, prosthetics and wig documents to include, but not limited to, photos, supplies, and step-by-step instructions of applications and techniques to ensure the safety and quality of the assets. Assists with the development and organization of new projects for seasonal offerings and special events. Participates in fittings, dress rehearsals, and show openings to ensure the character and costume requirements are being met and align with the approved look.
- Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
- Supervises a Non-Exempt team

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities (KSAs) required.
- Strong knowledge of application and maintenance of makeup, prosthetics, and/or wigs.
- Strong communication skills, highly organized, and able to prioritize numerous tasks. Ability to provide strong customer service skills.
- Must be able to work well under pressure and adapt to changes quickly.
- Knowledge of Adobe Acrobat and InDesign is a plus.
- Must be able to work a flexible and varying schedule based on business demands.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Nevada state certifications are required, including OSHA 10 certification and Nevada Cosmetology license.
EDUCATION:
- Technical school or Bachelor’s degree in Makeup, Theater or related field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
- 1+ years of management experience of wig styling and/or makeup and prosthetic application is required, 2+ years of styling and/or application experience within the professional entertainment or themed entertainment industry is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
