Universal Horror Unleashed is a terrifyingly unique experience that will bring haunts to Las Vegas year-round. Located at Area 15 is the heart of horror – we would love to have you haunting alongside us! With the nature of this experience comes a unique working environment. You will find yourself working in dark environments around special effects including strobe lights, fog, artificial smells, and more. The working hours will be unique, typically spanning over late evenings/nights and weekends (holidays included). JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for costume construction, repairs, alterations, and fittings for existing characters, shows, wardrobe, and new projects, partnering within the Costume team or working independently at Universal Horror Unleashed. Maintains direct and thorough communication with Costume leadership of any necessary information, projects status updates, issues and/or milestones. Ensures the integrity and creative intent of each new costume is in alignment with Universal standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs basic to complex alterations and repairs in alignment with Universal standards. Irons, steams, washes, and prepares fabric as needed for projects. Effectively communicates, tracks, and reports on successes or failures of costume repairs and longevity procedures.
  • Supports the costume construction by cutting pieces from patterns, with knowledge of grain, knap, and fabric saving techniques. Demonstrates proficiency in working with sewing machines, overlocks, and hand stitching to skillfully construct and sew costumes.
  • Attends and performs fittings, makes costume adjustments, and notates changes per Costume leadership authorization. Skillfully alters costumes to align with fitting notes and ensures their stage readiness in alignment with Universal costume quality and standards.
  • Assists with setting up and implementing procedures for new shows, events, and characters to facilitate the daily maintenance.
  • Maintains equipment and supplies and communicates request needs to leadership.
  • Assists in cleanliness and organization of the work areas and ensures that all containers are labeled and stored according to MSDS and NFPA standards and performs accurate logging of daily work product.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Some work may require contact with latex, wool, fur, and other allergens.

QUALIFICATIONS  To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities (KSAs) required.

  • Demonstrated experience and proficiency in, but not limited to, machine sewing (industrial single needle, industrial overlock, industrial walking foot, domestic machines), hand sewing, ironing and pressing.
  • Be knowledgeable and able to work with various fabrics from knits to wovens, and specialty fabrics including spandex and fur.
  • Advanced sewing skills by hand or machine and millinery are a plus.
  • Strong communication skills, highly organized, and able to prioritize numerous tasks.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and adapt to changes quickly.
  • Must be able to work a flexible and varying schedule based on business demands, work well under pressure, and adapt to changes quickly.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICESNSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Nevada state certifications are required, including OSHA 10 certification.

EDUCATION

  • Technical, Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Costume or Fashion Construction/Technology is strongly preferred.

EXPERIENCE

  • 2+ years of costume construction and maintenance experience and working with patterns is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
