Universal Horror Unleashed is a terrifyingly unique experience that will bring haunts to Las Vegas year-round. Located at Area 15 is the heart of horror – we would love to have you haunting alongside us! With the nature of this experience comes a unique working environment. You will find yourself working in dark environments around special effects including strobe lights, fog, artificial smells, and more. The working hours will be unique, typically spanning over late evenings/nights and weekends (holidays included). JOB SUMMARY

Supports management in directing and coordinating the SFX Makeup & Prosthetics activities for Universal Horror Unleashed. Leads the SFX Makeup & Prosthetic Artists with assigning daily tasks and maintaining projects, training, inventory, materials, and supplies. Executes and maintains the application of advanced SFX makeup and prosthetics with the understanding of color theory, materials and tools, and techniques including airbrushing, aging, and fitting and the application of advanced multi-piece silicon and/or latex prosthetics and prosthetic hair pieces. Maintains the integrity and creative intent of each design in alignment with Universal standards.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists the SFX Makeup, Prosthetics & Wigs leadership in assigning projects to Artists. Performs opening and closing duties that include, but not limited to, coordinating and maintaining assignment and application status of each individual SFX Makeup & Prosthetics Artist, ensures that directions are being followed in a timely manner and in alignment with Universal standards, ensures quality control, troubleshoots application issues, completes ‘last looks’ of Performers, and sustainable inventory measures are in place.
  • Performs as a SFX Makeup & Prosthetic Artist during daily operations as necessary. Provides the application, piece prep, removal, and care of all forms of SFX makeup and prosthetics. Maintains knowledge of all materials and tools, applying various sized prosthetics, such as wounds, cheeks, foreheads/brows, bald caps, usage of airbrush and aging techniques.
  • Troubleshoots and addresses issues with applications and techniques to ensure show quality and approved designed looks. Inspects and maintains prosthetics with regular maintenance of pieces. Communicates concerns to leadership to ensure sustainable use of all materials and tools.
  • Participates in makeup and prosthetic tests, fittings, dress rehearsals, and show openings.
  • Assists the SFX Makeup, Prosthetics & Wigs leadership in the training of new and current SFX Makeup & Prosthetic Artists as well as performing artists in the application of their makeup while preserving the integrity of each look and assist performing artists with the removal of prosthetic hair pieces as needed.
  • Communicates stock and purchasing needs to leadership and maintain equipment, supplies, and the highest levels of cleanliness and sanitation of supplies, tools, workstation, and area.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICAITONS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities (KSAs) required.

  • Must be proficient of all materials and supplies in SFX Makeup & Prosthetics included but not limited to the application and maintenance of latex and silicone prosthetics, airbrushing, aging
  • Ability to identify and match colors.
  • Experience with teaching performers how to apply makeup.
  • Ability to provide strong customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills, highly organized, and able to prioritize numerous tasks.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and adapt to changes quickly.
  • Must be able to work a flexible and varying schedule based on business demands.
  • Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Consistent attendance is a job requirement.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • Nevada state certifications are required, including OSHA 10 certification and Nevada Cosmetology license.
  • Graduate of certified Makeup school is preferred.

EDUCATION

  • Technical school, Associates, or Bachelor’s degree in Theater or related field is preferred. 

EXPERIENCE

  • 4+ years of professional SFX makeup and prosthetic application experience with 1+ years of providing work direction is required; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
