JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for the development and management of all assigned Entertainment related aesthetic, show and guest-experience elements.  In concert with the creative and design staff, the Senior Show Director defines and insures compliance with Entertainment goals and intent, and acts as the creative lead on assigned projects. Supervising any assigned internal staff and/or consulting with creative external partners, insuring the successful completion of all creative assignments.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Accountable for the creative development and execution for all assignments assuring that the creative meets Universal Orlando standards.  The Senior Show Director co-ordinates all the artistic aspects of multiple show productions for assigned internal and/or external partners. This includes but not limited to creating concept development and direction of – pre-production, writing, casting, rehearsals, staging and show maintenance elements.
  • Responsible for the management, direction, and development of creative personnel including but not limited show directors, assistant show directors, performance captains, writers, choreographers, dance captains and music coaches assigned to the project.
  • Responsible for the development of approved concepts, which includes, but is not limited to the areas of developing ideas and creative collaboration.  Effectively communicating potential concepts and approvals to the creative staff.
  • Acts as Entertainment’s creative liaison for internal and external partners, licensors, and intellectual property developers when assigned.
  • Responsible for the development and creation of appropriate project presentations to both internal and external audiences to communicate project concept and content.
  • Supports production in developing and implementing the tactical plan for the enhancement and improvement of creative development for all assignments including staffing and budgetary requirements.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

SCOPE: 

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Role will provide show direction over events and/or venues, with up to 200 Team Members within a venue.  Role will provide supervision/direction to internal staff - ASD’s, Performance Coordinators, Venue Captains, etc. and/or external creative partners – vendors.

EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelor’s Fine Arts degree from a four year college or university in Theatre Management or equivalent experience within the Professional Theatrical Industry preferred.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • 5-7 years cumulative experience in Show Direction, Script Writing, Choreography and concept development required. 
  • 7-10 years preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
