JOB SUMMARY:
The Art Supervisor plays a vital role in ensuring the smooth operation of projects within the Art & Design department. This position supports both internal teams and external vendors by coordinating operational décor efforts, managing logistics, and contributing creatively. The Art Supervisor is also responsible for leading hourly décor crews in the execution of scenic and set dressing work, ensuring quality, efficiency, and adherence to project goals. Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills are essential to ensure projects are completed efficiently, on time, and within budget.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversee décor crews and manage the execution of design elements to meet project deadlines and budget goals. Communicate project objectives from the Art Manager to the Lead Set Dresser and collaborate closely on daily operations. Delegate tasks, provide resources, and maintain alignment with the Art Manager. Assist in tracking labor and non-labor budgets, estimating, scheduling and timecard reconciliation as needed. Interview and hire Set Dressers annually.
- Coordinate vendor relationships and financial processes by reviewing quotes, communicating with vendors and working with Finance and Production to ensure timely reconciliation of P-Card purchases. Make purchases using P-Cards or petty cash as needed, and ensure all transactions are properly documented. Support Art Manager in budgeting for materials and supplies to keep projects within financial limits.
- Assist Art Manager with procurement of materials and supplies for set dressing and décor needs. Shop for items, ensure availability, and maintain budget compliance. Research and source materials through online platforms, antique marts, specialty stores, etc. Attend meetings, design walks, and in-field checks as requested by the Art Manager.
- Support the creative process by helping the Art Manager brainstorm décor and prop ideas. Contribute to the execution of design concepts and ensure the creative vision is realized in the final product.
- Maintain documentation for current and archived projects. Capture and organize photo documentation to track progress and ensure visual consistency. Troubleshoot and resolve in-field issues and document best practices for future.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Required AA or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school.
- Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Stage Design, Interior Design, Drafting or Fine Arts.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
EXPERIENCE:
- 1-3 years: Planning and execution of TV/Film or Theatrical Presentations and set dressing required.
- 3-5 years: Planning and execution of TV/Film or Theatrical Presentations and set dressing preferred.
- Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
