Senior Designer, Scenic (Project Based Role)

JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for blue sky development and the creative and innovative design solutions, as well as story elements for projects produced by Entertainment including but not limited to Halloween Horror Nights, Christmas, Mardi Gras, New Years, Concert Series, Capital Projects, and Grand Openings throughout Universal Orlando.

Must have creative, artistic and illustration ability as well as a firm working knowledge of scenic construction methods and scenic finishing techniques. Is responsible for bringing the creative intent of a project to life in concept illustrations, scenic elevations, design packages depicting the creative intent of the various projects.

Utilizes various 3d modeling, drawing and drafting techniques and tools (e.g. Sketchup, AutoCAD, ADOBE Graphics software, other 3D software, etc.) to model, draw, and create scale elevations from which scenic vendors may bid and build.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Participate in a collaborative environment with Show Development team to conceptualize story and scenic elements for marque events such as, but not limited to, Halloween Horror Nights, Holidays, and Mardi Gras.
  • Accountable for the design execution as assigned by Entertainment Management which entails providing conceptual designs including but not limited to, illustrations, Sketchup models, graphic design, hand drafting, AutoCAD plans and elevations.
  • Oversee and coordinate a group of designers to produce large scale design packages, with special consideration towards budget and deadline. as well as oversee the field art direction of scenic vendors, and UO Decor crew during installation.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.   
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: 

  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in Theatrical Design Preferred. 

EXPERIENCE: 

  • 3+ Years: Experience in Theatrical Design and Theme Park Design Execution Required. 
  • 5+ Years: Experience in Theatrical Design and Theme Park Design Presentations Preferred.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.
