JOB SUMMARY:

The Assistant Director, Media Design oversees, directs and performs assigned media production and editing projects throughout the entire lifecycle of International and Domestic Universal Creative attraction projects, with additional responsibility for global final media archiving, and executive communication and branding project assignments. Responsible for establishing and maintaining standards, processes, and procedures for creative direction of media, media producing, media asset management, and internal/external media communications. Oversees work quality of internal and external media resources in collaboration with the Creative Studio leadership team and project staff as required. Manages third-party media vendor relationships and workflows to ensure timely and efficient transferal of all media assets, ensuring the creative intent is maintained while on-schedule and within budget, during the pre-production, production, post-production, programming, and integration phases of attraction media development.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Media Creation: Execute media direction, editorial services, and media design elements from conceptual content to final media assets. Create media assets and deliverables for projects, presentations, attractions, queues, billboards, visual displays and more. Identify resource needs, contract, and direct third-party vendors in all phases of media creation, from concept to final media, including but not limited to pre-visualizations, animatics, live action production, technical review edits, original motion graphic design, recording scratch tracks and voice overs, sound design, and music composition.
  • Post-Production: Perform all phases of media editing and post-production to ensure on-time, on-budget delivery of the highest quality media content while maintaining the integrity of established creative intent and Universal Creative media quality standards. Prepare and produce all presentation materials required for executive leadership review and approval of attraction creative intent. Provide oversight and manage outside vendor post-production efforts during all phases of media development for attraction-based projects and corporate communications. Provide technical media direction for project teams and vendors, create technical standards, and assist with facility integration to ensure the successful delivery and integration of the overall creative intent.
  • Media Archives: Oversee all media archiving and logging efforts of Universal Creative media assets. Direct and track progress of media asset archives on all vaulted materials, and in-progress assets leading up to project completion. Develop, design, and execute master final media archives in Orlando, FL and localized archives in each UDX Destination and/or New Venture. Establish and maintain strategic partnerships with UPR partner teams to ensure alignment amongst all locations. Direct development and expansion plans to maintain necessary archive hardware for successful implementation of the final media archive initiative.
  • Creative Direction: Oversee and provide creative media direction for assigned attraction-based projects, media updates to existing attractions, and executive media messaging in partnership with the Branding & Communication team to ensure quality standards and creative intent are maintained for all media elements. Develop and present appropriate project presentations to both internal and external audiences to communicate project concept, content, status, and creative intent to gain approvals. Act as creative project liaison for appropriate internal and external partners, licensors, and intellectual property developers.
  • Leadership: Establish, build, and maintain positive and productive team relationships with project partners, departments, disciplines, and personnel. Serve as interface between Universal Creative and interdepartmental partners such as Human Resources, Branding & Communications, NBC Symphony, Engineering, Tech Services, and Park Operations during development, pre-production, production and post-production with project teams, media vendors. Research new media products, applications, providers and systems as they may apply to UDX to ensure the company stays current on technological advancements and industry standards.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: 

  • Supervises an Exempt and Non-Exempt team

  • Strong design and production portfolio.
  • Knowledge of budgeting, scheduling, scope preparation and variety of vendors.
  • Ability to effectively manage multiple individuals within a variety of disciplines.
  • Knowledge of theme park technologies including ride, A/V, robotics, engineering and various show systems.
  • Working knowledge of Movie Magic software, as well as audio, film and video editing software, systems, and techniques.
  • Expert knowledge of video and photo format along with rendering processes and procedures.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor’s degree in film and Video Production is required. Master’s degree is preferred from an accredited University in Film / Video Production, or equivalent experience.

EXPERIENCE: 

9+ years in media development, design and production of multiple media formats including but not limited to all standard film and video formats, live action production and animation, in addition to large-screen projection, multiple projection, High-Definition, 3-D (Stereo Projection); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
