JOB SUMMARY:
Provides the highly skilled, discipline specific technical skills needed for the successful operation and maintenance of the Pyrotechnics/Special Effects (SPFX) elements for assigned Entertainment venues, projects, or events, to ensure highest levels of show quality and a positive guest experience.
Responsible for following all policies and procedures, including high-risk, for assigned area and team, as defined by statutory and regulatory authorities for federal, state, and local authorities, including NFPA and Universal Orlando, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Installation / strike of the special effects & pyrotechnic equipment, including handling of flammable liquids/gas & explosive materials within the assigned venue, project, or event.
- Assisting with the use and operation of the special effects & pyrotechnic equipment within the assigned venue, project or event.
- Responsible for the appropriate maintenance of special effects equipment under the supervision of the Lead Tech I.
- Complete required documentation to maintain accountability of the locations for pyrotechnic devices, keeping in compliance within internal and governmental regulation.
- Operation of heavy equipment which includes forklifts, extending boom forklifts & aerial work platforms.
- Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION:
- Technical school is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
Required:
- 0-2 years’ experience within the assigned technical discipline.
Preferred:
- Prior experience within the professional theme park/theater industry in a technical capacity (electrical, mechanical, special effects, pyrotechnics); or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:
- Valid Florida Driver’s License - required to operate company vehicles.
- Ability to pass the BATFE background check.
- Ability to complete the UO Pyrotechnics training course.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Accountable to strictly adhere to all policies and procedures, as defined by the Entertainment Department, governing the safe operation of all technical equipment.
- As directed, may assist in technical training and implementation of all training materials. Maintains and shares job knowledge and assists in developing Team Members.
- This position will be required to work outdoors in various weather conditions and will need to access building rooftops via fixed ladders & open staircases.
