JOB SUMMARY:

Supports UO Horticulture through cataloging and maintaining a global tree database utilizing Maximo Enterprise software; Skilled at plant identification through use of botanical names; Performs in-field data collection using specialized measurement, GPS, and RFID scanning equipment; Supports management in directing and coordinating tasks amongst interns and qualified team members; Demonstrates ability to produce and maintain an accurate tree survey for compliance with local statutes; Understands Arboriculture best practices as they relate to plant health care, supporting systems, and risk assessment.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Identifies and catalogs tree and palm assets per UO Horticulture standards. Gathers asset data in the field by asset tagging with RFID tags and maintains accurate GIS reporting through the use of professional GPS equipment. Utilizes measurement devices to accurately record tree and palm height, diameter, and canopy. Uses Florida nursery standards for grading and appraising trees and palms. Analyzes UOR tree inventory to ensure tree diversity to prevent monocultures and the potential for insect and pathogen concerns.
  • Identifies and tracks changes to existing inventory for removal, relocation, and newly installed trees and palms at UOR. Works with creative or third-party vendors to gather tree and palm data and as-builts from new projects and enters them into Maximo. Audits work orders in Maximo to ensure proper naming convention and compliance with Horticulture department standards.
  • Plans and delegates work assignments among interns and qualified team members. Monitors productivity and work habits. Monitors care, condition, use, and storage of tools, equipment, and other UO property. Maintains material inventories and ensures 5S procedures are being followed. Monitors compliance with wardrobe/grooming standards, driving policy, radio usage, and other UO policies. Communicates performance expectations to ensure proper completion of tasks; provides feedback for recognition and performance improvement through Lead Observation reports. Actively reinforces company safety guidelines and programs.
  • Manages and updates asset hierarchy, location hierarchy, classifications, and specifications in Maximo. Audits current Maximo data with field data to confirm validity. Updates specifications from field data into Maximo.
  • Oversees PHC Plant Health Care and PIC Post Install Care for trees and palms. Create and delegate work orders to the proper trades to ensure proper care and maintenance are completed on all existing and newly installed trees and palms.
  • Ensures proper staking and guying standards by inspecting all UOR trees and palms in the field. Audits current assets according to Maximo PMs Preventative Maintenance and assigns PMFLP Preventative Maintenance Follow-up Work Orders to skilled trades for adjustments, removal, or replacements.
  • Identifies and catalogs trees canopy according to genus, species, and diameter in the Maximo database for the City of Orlando's yearly requirement. Generate reports to comply with the City of Orlando tree laws.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Associate degree (AS) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in Horticulture and/or related field preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 5+ Years of experience in a position working with Maximo, databases, or similar asset management system.
  • Understanding of work orders, job plans, and preventive maintenance.
  • 3+ Years preferred in a resort/attraction or similar upscale landscape environment, certifications, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

ISA (International Society of Arboriculture) certifications, ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification, and/or FNGLA (Florida Nursery Grower Landscape Association) certifications preferred.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Must have understanding of Maximo records such as job plans, PMs, work orders, assets, and locations
  • Must have advanced Microsoft Excel and Outlook skills.
  • Must be familiar with Horticulture best practices, integrated pest management, irrigation water management, arboriculture practices, tools, heavy equipment, and 2-cycle equipment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate ability to present complex information in a simple, easy-to-understand written form, using proper English grammar.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with technical personnel.
  • Should have a working knowledge of other Microsoft Office applications including PowerPoint.
