JOB SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager, Internal Communications is a strategic leader responsible for developing and executing communications strategies that align with business priorities and advance understanding of the company’s vision and values. This role plays a key part in shaping the Team Member experience and supporting Universal Orlando Resort’s Employer of Choice ambition through clear, engaging and consistent communications across the destination. This leader oversees integrated communication plans and editorial calendars spanning digital, social, video boards, live events, road shows and print/signage. Serving as the editorial lead, the Senior Manager brings a strong journalistic mindset and works across teams to align messaging, maintain consistency in voice and tone to ensure content supports organizational priorities.

Partnering closely with the Director, Internal Communications, the Senior Manager leads campus-wide communications in support of Team Member Experience, Talent & Culture, Talent Acquisition and Digital & Technology initiatives among others. The role supports executive-level communications, including presentations, talking points and organizational updates, and assists the Director in issues, incident and crisis communications.

The Senior Manager supervises and coaches a team of three, emphasizing development, accountability and high performance. This highly visible role requires strong relationship-building skills, sound judgment and the ability to influence others through a fast-paced, high-volume environment. The Senior Manager also leads research and submissions for employer-related awards, helping strengthen the organization’s Employer of Choice reputation.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Communication Planning

  • Develop and implement communication objectives and plans, inclusive of strategies and tactics, that support business priorities and initiatives, ensuring alignment with messaging and execution across the destination.
  • Partner with senior leadership and key stakeholders to craft clear, engaging and effective communication content and messaging that resonates with various Team Member audiences.
  • Continuously measure and assess the impact of communication initiatives, using insights to refine strategies and improve effectiveness.
  • Identify opportunities and benchmark best practices to expand the reach and resonance of communication channels.

Editorial Content Strategy and Channel Oversight

  • Oversees and manages the production of destination wide publications (digital or print), email, digital, video, social and web platform/Intranet and print/signage content. Reviews and edits content, ensuring messaging is clear, balanced, engaging, consistent and effective. Provides timely and constructive feedback to content producers. Manages outside vendors as appropriate and ensures delivery of aligned scopes of work.
  • Partners with other business groups to ensure Team Member focused social content aligns and supports overall plans and strategy. Ensures brand, voice and IP standards are vetted, approved and are represented accurately.
  • Drives implementation and alignment of Universal Orlando Resort editorial content strategy and editorial calendar to deliver consistent, high-quality messaging across internal and external channels, to enhance and amplify Destination level content.

Culture Building, Storytelling and Engagement and Events

  • Identify, source and create compelling content that tells the destination’s story, showcases key initiatives and amplifies Team Member voices.
  • Engage with Team Members at all levels to uncover impactful narratives that enhance internal brand awareness and foster a sense of community.
  • Work closely with Talent & Culture, Team Member Experience and leadership, and other departments to ensure a cohesive and compelling internal storytelling approach.
  • Generates editorial programming that tells our powerful Team Member stories to inspire our internal audience, reinforce benefits/perks, Team Member first culture, Employer of Choice ambition and build affinity with our external audience.
  • Support the planning and execution of internal events, town halls and leadership roadshows to enhance employee engagement and alignment.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to ensure their messages are delivered effectively, using the right channels and formats to reach Team Members.
  • Manage logistics, content development and post-event engagement strategies to maximize impact.

Client Partnerships and Team Leadership

  • Fosters effective relationships with our key client groups and divisional partners. Leads cross-functional task forces, as identified, that serve to collectively elevate company communication initiatives. Identifies opportunities for enhanced collaboration with divisional partners.
  • Provides leadership, support, coaching and development of direct reports and functional subject matter experts ensuring that they have the development and skills necessary to provide a consistent delivery of performance.

Measurement & Analysis

  • Establish KPIs for associated efforts and monitor communications effectiveness to constantly improve impact.
  • Evaluates and monitors data (email, social media, web platforms; survey results, etc.) and develops action plans to address the analysis. Identify opportunities to increase the capture of metrics to further enhance the analysis of the impact of our messaging.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or a related field is required.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years’ experience working in Communications is required, including 3+ years of supervisory experience.
  • 1+ year of experience at Universal Orlando or Universal Destinations & Experiences preferred.
  • Public Relations, or Advertising experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of media, working with journalists and social media a plus.
  • Multilingual a plus.
  • Graphic design and ability to translate written content into visual formats a plus; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Proven ability to use research and insights to plan, develop, execute and evaluate communications strategies in support of company initiatives, working collaboratively across functions, divisions and locations.
  • Experience delivering high-impact internal and external communications that generate measurable results, with an entrepreneurial spirit within a corporate environment.
  • Proven ability to engage senior leaders while driving strong team engagement, development and retention outcomes.
  • Demonstrated experience handling sensitive or complex matters, effectively applying issues and crisis management skills to mitigate risk and organizational impact.
  • Ability to be nimble, adapt quickly and remain effective while managing multiple, often competing priorities.
  • Proven experience supporting senior-level executives, including preparation of key messages, briefing materials and related content.
  • Strong creative problem-solving skills paired with acute attention to detail, even under tight deadlines.
  • Ability to develop content aligned to storytelling strategies and measure performance against defined objectives.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and gain buy-in for programs and ideas with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Experience developing and publishing content across internal and external platforms, including employee newsletters, intranets, LinkedIn, Instagram and other mediums.
  • Working knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite, with basic proficiency in HTML and web design.
