JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible to manage the overall processes, procedures and policies relative to the operation of all Pyrotechnics/Special Effects utilized throughout Universal Orlando.  Manages the operation of the Entertainment Warehouse, Shops, and Storage Facilities including all assets and supplies purchased, housed, maintained, and inventoried to provide quality service to venues, events, and projects.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensures that all team members responsible for handling special effects and pyrotechnics are fully trained and in compliance with all Universal Orlando Policies and Procedures relative to the safe use of special effects and pyrotechnic devices. Provides guidance and support to all Special Effects/ Pyrotechnic Supervisors with operational and team member relations issues.
  • Overall responsibility for the ordering, receipt, inventory and transportation of all Special Effects/pyrotechnic devices on Universal Orlando Property. Responsible for obtaining the necessary and required permits for all pyrotechnic and Special Effect productions on Universal Orlando Property. Overall responsibility for all relationships with Federal, State, County, and City of Orlando regulatory agencies; including but not limited to Compliance, licensing, transportation of hazardous materials, storage of explosives, environmental controls and emergency response procedures.
  • Overall responsibility for the preventative maintenance of all Special Effects/pyrotechnic devices on Universal Orlando property including but not limited to all systems inspections. Responsible for the creative development of new special effects utilized within all Universal Orlando Properties and the proper installation and specifications of all new pyrotechnic equipment.
  • Manages the daily operations of the Entertainment Warehouse.  Manages the operations of the shop facilities through the production, operational, and post-production phases of all projects.  Directs and manages the procurement, receipt, inventory, distribution, preparation, maintenance, manufacturing, and restock of assets and consumables. Manages team member relations including, but not limited to; attendance, scheduling, recognition, disciplinary actions and ensuring that team members attend all mandatory training classes as well as being instrumental in the professional development of team members by encouraging them to take advantage of useful, relevant training and educational opportunities that will enhance job performance.
  • Administers and maintains HireTrack inventory software system used for tracking asset location, usage, and maintenance history. Manages Warehouse and Technical Administration budgets.
  • Partners with Entertainment management in implementing strategic plans for asset purchase, usage, storage, and restock.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: 

  • High school degree or GED required. 
  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college or university in a technical or related field, or experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree preferred. 

EXPERIENCE: 

  • Three to five years’ managerial experience within the Special Effects/pyrotechnics field and warehouse inventory control.
  • Three to five years’ experience in a management or supervisory position required.
  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Florida License for Explosive Usage must be acquired within 90 days of employment.
