JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for providing day-to-day Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) support to construction and capital project teams through implementation of the UO Contractor Safety Program, EHS standards, and associated processes. Serves as a technical resource to Project Teams, contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders throughout project development, design, construction, and closeout phases. Supports contractor prequalification, construction safety oversight, design review, inspections, incident response, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance activities. Collaborates with EHS peer teams and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to identify hazards, evaluate risks, implement controls, and support safe project execution while fostering a positive safety culture and alignment with organizational objectives.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

Pre-Construction Phase:

• Review concept packages and support development of construction documents with Project Teams and Facility Management.
• Coordinate and support the EHS contractor prequalification process and evaluate contractor performance against established EHS protocols.
• Participate in pre-construction meetings and communicate UO EHS Contractor Safety expectations to contractors and Project Teams.
• Conduct contractor safety orientations in alignment with established programs. Evaluate EHS logistics with general contractors, vendors, and Project Teams regarding site access, insurance, contractor safety requirements, and project-specific EHS expectations.

Design Phase:

• Support Project Managers and Facility Management in reviewing design phase submittals impacting EHS programs and operational safety.
• Review project design documents for corporate standards and regulatory compliance. Coordinate input from EHS subject matter experts and communicate recommendations to project stakeholders.
• Evaluate existing facility conditions and operational impacts to identify potential EHS concerns requiring consideration during design.
• Participate in design review and progress meetings to support safe and compliant project outcomes.

Demolition/Construction Phase:

• Support implementation of the UO EHS Contractor Safety Program through active participation in project meetings, field observations, audits, and site inspections.
• Monitor contractor conformance with regulatory requirements, corporate standards, and project-specific EHS requirements.
• Document inspections, observations, corrective actions, and compliance activities in designated systems. Collaborate with contractors, vendors, Project Teams, and EHS business lines to facilitate communication regarding project schedules, change management activities, high-risk work, and construction safety requirements. Develop and track punch list items related to EHS compliance concerns.
• Assist with incident investigations, concern reports, corrective actions, and emergent EHS issues.
• Provide proactive technical guidance and support to Project Teams and contractors throughout project execution. Stop working immediately when imminent hazards are identified.

Project Closeout Phase:

• Support completion of EHS punch lists and facility closeout activities. Participate in project post-mortem reviews and lessons learned discussions.
• Assist in preparing documentation required for EHS project sign-off and turnover activities.
• Verify completion of corrective actions and project EHS requirements prior to project closure.
• Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Job requires active coordination with multiple departments/clients across property.Work is complex with both known and changing contexts and within broad but established standards.
• Liaise with other EHS functional area experts related to environment, industrial hygiene, construction, fire, standards and assurance, training and safety operations
• Experience conducting inspections, audits, plan reviews, incident investigations, contractor oversight, and risk assessments.
• Experience supporting implementation of contractor safety programs and construction-related EHS standards.
• Direct oversight of EHS management system elements, corrective action programs, performance measurement, compliance verification, and cross-functional coordination.
• Experience interacting with contractors, project managers, Facility Management, and operational stakeholders.
• Must be an initiative-taker with basic working knowledge of applicable health and safety regulations, possess basic business acumen and effective communication skills, ability to identify, analyze, and appropriately communicate and act on information in a range of workplace conditions and unpredictable situations.
• Ability to influence and work on a team by applying communication, collaboration, engagement and listening skills to promote and support change.
• Possess and utilize mentoring skills to develop capability of management team members related to EHS matters.
• Basic ability to develop plans, identify trends, and create short term strategies to mitigate risk.
• Strong computer skills, ability to prepare and deliver presentations, ability to work varied hours and days with most of the time being in the field.

EDUCATION:

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health, Environmental Science, Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, Public Health, or a related discipline preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

• 3+ years of EHS experience supporting construction, capital projects, contractor management, or related operational environments.
