JOB SUMMARY:

The Director, Risk Management provides strategic and operational leadership for Universal Orlando Resort’s Risk Management function, overseeing guest and team member incidents, liability and workers’ compensation claims, litigation support, contractual risk transfer and third-party insurance requirements, and risk mitigation. The Director partners with Legal, Safety, Operations, Human Resources, Security, and other business leaders to identify emerging risks, evaluate trends, and implement strategies to support informed risk-based decisions. This role also supports the advancement of the use of data and analytics to measure and communicate risks to business leaders.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leads the Risk Management function for Universal Orlando Resort providing strategic direction, operational oversight, and leadership for teams responsible for liability and workers’ compensation claims, litigation support, incident management, risk mitigation strategy, other risk-related programs, and supports the development and maintenance of associated policies, procedures, metrics, and reporting.
  • Oversees the management of liability and workers’ compensation claims and litigation to include incident intake and investigation, litigation and discovery support, return to work programs, claims trends and volume, and coordination with internal and external partners to include third-party administrators, corporate risk partners, and outside counsel.
  • Drives proactive risk identification, analysis, and mitigation by evaluating incident, claim, and operational data and trends to identify opportunities for risk mitigation and supports efforts for dashboard development, metrics, and reporting to senior leadership and partners with safety and operational teams to implement strategies to communicate safety and risk information to the business and pursuit of effective risk mitigation strategies.
  • Reviews contracts and provides guidance and recommendations for contractual risk transfer to include third party insurance requirements for vendors, contractors, tenants, event partners, and other third parties in partnership with Legal, Sourcing, and respective business partners.
  • Serves as a strategic risk advisor and cross-functional business partner to internal business units and leaders across Universal Orlando Resort and provide risk advisory services to other Universal Destinations and Experiences locations on an as needed basis.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Business Administration, Finance, Legal Studies, Safety, or related field required.
  • Master’s degree in a related field is preferred.
  • Professional designation or certification such as ARM, CRM, CPCU, or other equivalent risk management, insurance, claims, or safety credential is preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 10+ years of progressively responsible experience in risk management, insurance, claims, litigation, or related field with 5+ years of experience in an in-house risk management department leading teams in large and complex risk organizations; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
