Lead Technician, Entertainment - Universal Kids Resort

JOB SUMMARY:

Supports management in directing and coordinating activities of Entertainment Technical functions, shows and special events. Provides work direction and leads the daily tasks of Team Member work to support the operation and venue maintenance. Utilizes highly skilled technical knowledge to support show and offerings by overseeing shifts, conducting field repairs, troubleshooting, testing, installing, and commissioning of technical entertainment equipment and systems. These systems can include a wide variety of electronic and mechanical platforms to include show control, communications, wireless audio systems, lighting, video, large format digital projection, special effects systems, laser systems, and the like. Conducts daily venue startups and assessments, performs routine preventative, diagnostic, and corrective maintenance. Upholds and reinforces company and venue specific policies and procedures.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible to plan and delegate work tasks for the Entertainment Technical functions. Delegates work assignments among qualified Team Members and third-party vendors. Communicates performance expectations to ensure proper completion of tasks. Completes necessary reporting and task management through the proper systems including Maximo to ensure effective communication and coordination across Entertainment and Operations.
  • Actively reinforces company safety guidelines and programs, reports non-compliance. Monitors Team Member productivity, work habits. Leads the work startup and stoppage and schedules breaks. Monitors care, condition, use and storage of equipment and other Universal Kids Resort property while maintaining inventory. Monitors compliance with department standards, driving policy, radio usage, and other Universal policies.
  • Ensures proper completion of work orders and documentation, ensuring accurate data entry and standardization daily within Maximo. Ensures proper equipment, tools, and procedures are available for all work performed. Captures written behaviors using the Lead Observation-Report to support Entertainment Technical Management documentation and adherence to state requirements.
  • Assists with training new and current Team Members and coordinating daily training needs. Provides training updates and follows up as necessary to ensure the completion of all proper documentation and adherence to Universal standards and procedures. Communicates resource needs and work plans to leadership for proper maintenance scheduling and support.
  • Performs Technician job duties as necessary to ensure labor coverage. Maintains and shares job knowledge, assists in developing Team Members. Demonstrates adaptability and the ability to acquire skills in additional disciplines that benefit from their technical expertise, supporting a broader range of operational and project needs.
  • Communicates and coordinates across Entertainment and with Operations and Technical Services as needed to ensure a smooth operation and Guest safety. Assists with seasonal weather condition sustainment initiatives as directed.
  • Understand and actively participate in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UDX policy, procedures, training, and team member involvement activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities (KSAs) required.

  • Must have experience in and knowledge of Q-Sys systems.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Ability to make decisions under stress.

CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Preferred Certifications include:

  • Q-Sys Level 1 or 2.
  • Q-Sys Control Training 201 and Control & UCI Fundamentals Certification.
  • Dante Level 1, 2 or 3.
  • Christie Certification Training.
  • SMAART Technologies Software Certification.
  • ETCP/Esta.
  • Avixa CTS ANP.

EDUCATION:

  • Associate’s degree or equivalent Technical Schooling preferred.

EXPERIENCE:

  • 3+ years of experience in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing entertainment electrical equipment required; 1+ year of supervisory experience is preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
