Stitcher II Opportunities – Universal Epic Universe

JOB SUMMARY:

Costume Stitcher IIs are costumers responsible for general alterations and repairs on costume pieces. Stitcher IIs are skilled costumers capable of altering and repairing costumes and costume accessories out of a wide variety of materials including but not limited to spandex/stretch fabrics, silks/synthetic chiffons and satins, furs and fleeces, leathers/vinyl, engineered fabrics, foams, and latex elements. Costume Stitcher IIs should be proficient in hand sewing and machine sewing on both domestic and industrial machines. Some work may require contact with silicone, latex, wool, fur, and other allergens.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Able to perform basic repairs on woven, non-woven, stretch/lycra/spandex and specialty materials using standard industrial sewing, pressing and finishing equipment. Able to complete hand sewing repairs and finishing such as snaps, buttons, beading repairs, etc.
  • Able to assist in fitting and completing alterations as under the guidance of a lead on costumes. Able to maintain professionalism and confidentiality during the fitting process.
  • Introductory ability at zipper repair/ replacement, closures, hems and basic alteration/repairs by hand or by mechanical industrial machine.
  • Iron, wash, or prepare fabric as needed for projects. Basic understanding of textiles and fibers to help determine best practices when pressing, laundering and working with various materials. Assist in cleanliness and organizations of the work areas.
  • Assist the Costume Specialists with costume issue.
  • Understands and actively participates in Environmental, Health & Safety responsibilities by following established UO policy, procedures, training and team member involvement activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION: 

  • AA or Bachelor’s degree in theatrical Costume Technology/Construction/Design or similar field such as Fashion/Apparel or Technical Theater/Film strongly preferred.
  • Graduate degree in similar fields a plus.

EXPERIENCE: 

  • 1 – 2 years of basic experience in garment fabrication; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Some work may require contact with silicone, latex, wool, fur, and other allergens.
  • Hand sewing

  • Ironing/Pressing
  • Basic Math: Addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, geometry.
  • Knowledge of materials: fabrics, threads, needles.
