Scenic Painter

Responsibilities

  • Paints various props (ex. - wood graining, aging, textures) to match existing surfaces.
  • Performs layout, sculpting, theming and painting of various props from Artist direction and/or conceptual drawings.
  • Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel, or lacquer to decorate and protect interior or exterior surfaces, trimmings, and fixtures of buildings and other structures.
  • Prepares surfaces for painting; using sandpaper, brushes, or steel wool, and removes old paint from surfaces, using paint remover, scraper, wire brush, or blowtorch.
  • Preps and paints new surfaces for new construction and remodels; Fills nail holes, cracks, and joints with caulk, putty, plaster, or other filler, using caulking gun and putty knife.
  • Specialized painting and Faux Techniques, new work and touch up
  • Selects premixed paints, or mixes required portions of pigment, oil, and thinning and drying substances to prepare paint that matches specified colors.
  • Simulates wood grain, marble, brick, or tile effects.
  • Applies paint with cloth, brush, sponge, or fingers to create special effects.
  • Applies wall paper, fabrics and other specialty work
  • Automotive finish level on cabinets and other applications, HVLP or Spray Gun
  • Equipment cleaning, care and maintenance.
  • Support of Maintenance repair functions, such as drywall mudding and caulking, and performs all other duties as assigned
  • Adheres to all Standard Operating Procedures within Technical Services and USH at large.
  • Promotes and provides extraordinary guest service for both internal and external guests; answer questions, offer information, and provide assistance in a courteous manner.
  • Understands and demonstrates the proper use of safety practices and ensures department standards are maintained and safety policies for the Park upheld.
    Performs other duties as assigned

 

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • 3-5 years technical and trade experience in theme painting and air brush painting
  • Ability to color match and mix paints and varnishes for new and existing finishes
  • Ability to apply finishes to a wide variety of surfaces
  • Knowledge of the standard practices, materials, tools, and equipment used within the field
  • Advanced knowledge of commercial/industrial & show quality practices and processes of the painting trade, paints, varnishes, lacquers, enamels, epoxies, paint removers, and related materials, and of their properties and application
  • Knowledge of applicable code requirements; methods and practices followed in the maintenance of tools, machinery, and equipment; occupational hazards of the painting trade and precautionary measures to be taken during application
  • Knowledge of all phases of paint, fiberglass and sculpting are needed to be successful in this job classification.
  • Ability & willingness to work a variety of schedules, overtime, weekends and holidays with short notice
  • Ability and willingness to respond to incidents in locations requiring climbing, fall-protection, and other non-traditional work-environments.
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills both verbal and written on a technical level
  • Must have the ability to motivate employees and work independently and as part of a team

Desired Characteristics

  • Associate’s degree (AA) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school.
  • 3-5 years technical and trade experience in a similar work environment dealing with critical paint issues.
  • Experience in freestyle painting
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with all levels of employees and management, and willingness to give assistance to co-workers.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently under pressure; proactive thinker/self-starter
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook; knowledge of inventory software, i.e. Maximo
  • Ability to contribute to system improvement process
  • Theme Park Operations knowledge

Pay rate starting at $32.78 per hour.
