Evening and Morning Circulation Assistant

Overview:
The Part-Time Circulation Assistants report to the University Librarian. Incumbents will work an average of 12-19 hours per week during the academic year and 8-15 hours per week over the summer to cover Elaine Boyd Library service operations. Work schedules are somewhat flexible but must cover the Library operating hours as indicated and remain as stable as possible during the semester. This is a part-time, not benefit eligible position, limited to no more than 950 hours per calendar year.
Responsibilities:
  • Oversee Elaine Boyd Library service operations according to policies and procedures during the timeframe of 5:00 p.m. – 9:15 p.m. (Sunday - Thursday), with possible morning hours, 7:15 a.m. - 11:15 (Monday - Friday) as needed and available.
  • Close the Elaine Boyd Library at 9:15 p.m (Sunday - Thursday). during the Fall and Spring academic terms, and will open the Elaine Boyd Library during summer months at 8:30 a.m.
  • Supervise the Circulation Student Assistants at the library service desk when on duty.
  • Assist library patrons with print reserve requests, item check-in/out and other library service-related requests. Triage library questions to transition patrons to assistance by a librarian when necessary.
  • Process and fulfill incoming/outgoing ILL and EZ-Borrow requests as needed.
  • Assist with maintaining the operation of photocopiers and scanners within the University Library.
  • Perform shelf-reading.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • High school diploma or GED required. Associate's degree preferred.
  • 2-3 years of work experience required.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • Ability to work a varied and flexible work schedule, primarily evenings and mornings.
  • Ability to work independently and assume responsibility.
  • Ability to bend, stoop, kneel, stand for considerable periods, lift and shelve books.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and professionally with co-workers, subordinates and/or patrons of the library.
  • Ability to report for work during university delays and/or closings (due to inclement weather, outages, etc).
  • Willingness to work with students, faculty, and staff from various backgrounds, ethnicities, social worlds, and identities.
  • Excellent communication skills, and ability to ask questions is required.
  • Attention to detail.
