About the department / center:
The mission of the Office of Academic Enrichment (OAE) is to empower students to develop the academic skills and strategies that will pave the way for future success. Every undergraduate student can benefit from the support we offer–struggling students gain confidence and see great improvement, and high-achieving students become even stronger.
Role Description:
Student tutors help their peers better understand class material, build good study habits, and become more confident, independent learners. Tutors support academic success by creating a friendly and respectful learning space.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Assist peers in understanding course content by reviewing material, clarifying concepts, and explaining difficult topics.
- Schedule and conduct tutoring sessions—either one-on-one or in small groups—based on availability and student needs.
- Track appointments and student progress, often using a tutoring platform
- Be punctual and prepared for every session, bringing any necessary materials or resources.
- Log hours and session notes as required by the academic support office.
- Attend required training or team meetings to stay informed about tutoring expectations and resources.
- Update/Maintain tutor profiles and availability in scheduling systems
Qualifications:
- Enrolled undergraduate in good academic standing, cum. GPA of at least 3.00
- Currently enrolled undergraduate students with 30 or more earned credit hours (excluding AP credits)
- Minimum grade of a “B” in each course you wish to tutor (“A” preferred)
- Availability to participate in orientation, training, & meetings (dates determined based on start date)
- Good communication and interpersonal skill
- Knowledge of the university community
- Preferred: experience in teaching, presenting information and/or helping others learn
Requirements:
- Must be able to devote an entire semester to being employed as a tutor
Hiring Timeline:
This is an ongoing, or evergreen, position that requires continuous hiring throughout the year to backfill vacancies or bring on additional support as needed. Applications will be reviewed, and interviews and offers extended, only when there is an active need for recruitment.
