About Our Office:
The Technology Transfer Office (TTO) within the Office of Economic Innovation and Partnerships (OEIP) is responsible for commercializing the intellectual property assets of the University of Delaware. Technology Transfer is a crucial step in transforming UD ideas, research discoveries, and inventions into products and services that help society.
About the Technology Transfer Internship Position:
The TTO Business Development/Marketing Intern will gain experience in the field of technology transfer and the essential task of marketing highly technical inventions from UD faculty. Interns in this position will work on tasks in the following areas:
Business Development/Marketing Research:
- Perform business assessments by searching for similar intellectual property already on the market and which companies are already investing in these technologies.
- Prepare and assess company contact lists for inventions that contain key licensing personnel at companies and their contact information.
- Collaborate with the Technical Writing Intern to understand the background and industry impact of each technology.
- Incorporate feedback from TTO case managers and inventors to improve marketing materials.
Outreach:
- Contact companies that were identified in the company contact list via email to spark their interest in learning more about technologies.
- Draft and prepare content for review to post on social media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Hubspot) to make sure new technologies are being highlighted with engaging rhetoric.
- Special outreach projects may also be assigned by case managers, as needed.
Required Skills:
- A background in marketing or related business discipline with an interest in intellectual property technology commercialization, and business development.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently, be a self-starter, and be action-oriented.
- Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and professional written and oral communication skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Time Commitment:
This position requires 20 hours per week during the winter term. 50% of work hours must be completed on-site for hands-on cross-training, team meetings, and collaborative support, with remaining hours flexible. Based on performance, there is an opportunity to continue into the spring term at 10 hours per week.
