Schedule: Day. Hours are flexible but must be between the hours of 9AM-5PM. 10-20hr/wk

Location: Computing Center- 192 S. Chapel Street

Role Description:

The University of Delaware’s Information Security team in IT is looking for motivated students to work and help perform some of the daily tasks done to help secure the University’s people, networks, and data from cyber-related attacks.  Students should be interested in cybersecurity and in learning ways to apply processes and technology to help protect the University’s network and computing environment.  The selected students should be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week with a maximum of 20 hours per week.

Primary Responsibilities:

Students will rotate between the Security Operations (SecOps) and Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) teams.

Some of the areas where students will be asked to help in SecOps include:

  • Phishing tickets (help analyze emails that have been submitted to determine if they are malicious or not, determine what actions should be taken and reply to users).
  • Vulnerability management (help organize findings from vulnerability scans and results of remediation's).
  • Log analysis (help to monitor logs and develop alerts for security events)
  • Network monitoring and analysis of logs from Zeek and Suricata
  • Firewall rule reviews
  • Participation in projects to evaluate new security solutions

Some of the areas where students will be asked to help in GRC include:

  • Creating and maintaining metrics related to monthly phishing campaigns
  • Performing user access reviews of critical University applications
  • Creating and organizing content for security awareness postings and publications
  • Analyzing, summarizing, and reporting audit data from electronic medical record systems to help ensure regulatory compliance
  • Performing risk and compliance assessments related to critical University systems and processes
  • Assessing the adequacy of third-party security as part of the vendor risk management process
