Associate Director, Teaching & Learning - Rowan University Libraries

The new Associate Director, Teaching & Learning position at Rowan University Libraries leads a reorganized Teaching & Learning Team at Campbell Library, defining and shaping how they provide excellent, integrated patron support for the information needs of all colleges, programs, and academic departments on Rowan’s main Glassboro, NJ campus. The Associate Director supervises Campbell’s Subject Liaison Librarians as well as a Digital Humanities Librarian and an Information Literacy Librarian. They also indirectly supervise several part-time reference staff. The position reports to the Director, Campbell Library and is a key member of the Campbell Leadership Team.

Subject Liaison Program

The Associate Director leads the team of librarians in creating a culture of information fluency across the campus through impactful synchronous and asynchronous instruction, self-guided learning objects, subject-connected class sessions and open-ended workshops, partnered assignment design with teaching faculty, and individual research consultations. The Associate Director mentors and supports the librarians in responding to and anticipating new curricular and research needs across their academic departments, making effective use of one-time monograph funds and advocating for patron-focused changes in the use of continuing collection funds. The Associate Director coordinates with other members of the Campbell Leadership Team and Rowan University Libraries so that the Teaching & Learning Team can provide integrated communication and support for a wide variety of key topics for their academic departments (e.g. new collections and tools, open educational resources, research data management). The Associate Director leads the team in understanding and applying innovative best practices of active learning, universal design, and a focus on transferable skills for patrons.

Digital Humanities

The Associate Director leads the Digital Humanities Librarian in building a new program of support, particularly student-focused support, for a wide variety of DH methodologies and tools that complement existing offerings at Rowan. Together they cement a key partnership with the new Center for Digital Humanities Research in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences, leveraging Campbell collections and expertise to be a documenter, connector, and champion for these methodologies and the infrastructure to support them. The Associate Director leads the Digital Humanities Librarian in reimagining Campbell’s physical Digital Scholarship Center to become an active, student-focused space reflective of the experimental and playful nature of the digital humanities.

Student Success

The Associate Director leads the Information Literacy Librarian and other members of the Teaching & Learning Team in ensuring that Campbell Library is a meaningful and welcoming place for all Rowan students through its spaces, services, collections, outreach, and instruction. Together they build key partnerships with Rowan offices like the Division of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion, the newly formed University College, the Center for Neurodiversity, Rowan Thrive, the Family-Friendly Campus Initiative, and others. And they build key collaborations with student groups focused on BIPOC identity, gender and sexual identity, first generation to college, accessibility, and others. The Associate Director leads the Information Literacy Librarian in expanding an impactful program of support for first year students and connections to K-12 and county (community) college pathways for prospective students. The Associate Director also builds a key relationship with Campbell Access Services to ensure effective bidirectional referrals between the Teaching & Learning Team and Campbell’s main service point.

Qualifications

• MLS degree from an ALA accredited institution, or extensive relevant library experience.

• 5 years academic library experience, including some supervisory responsibility.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience managing and mentoring a group of Subject Liaison Librarians.

• Extensive experience providing direct service as a Subject Liaison Librarian, Student Success Librarian, Digital Humanities Librarian, or similar.

• Experience redesigning or reprogramming a library space.

• Experience supporting a group of patrons with a wide variety of backgrounds and needs.

• Understanding of Digital Humanities/Scholarship tools and methodologies.

• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, multi-task, and meet deadlines in order to conceptualize and pursue new solutions to complex problems as a self-starter requiring minimal supervision.

• Demonstrated ability to communicate, collaborate, and project manage effectively with a wide variety of audiences, stakeholders, and collaborators.

• Demonstrated experience and commitment to supporting diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging initiatives.

• Experience with a bargaining unit environment.
