Director of Web Strategy and Development

The Director of Web Strategy and Development will manage and lead the Rowan University Web Services team by providing leadership for planning, optimization, strategy, and development of the Rowan University website. This position manages the Web Services project portfolio, determines strategic priorities, manages policy and procedures, and coordinates team operations. The position is required to closely collaborate and communicate with various stakeholders throughout the university, including University PR, Marketing, Admissions, IRT, all Colleges/Schools, and other units based on university business needs. The position is also responsible for change management, end user tech support and training, web analytics, SEO and site performance, UI/UX, website compliance with government regulations, and all server-side systems. Some evening, weekend, and holiday work is to be expected. An option for a flexible work schedule allowing for some remote work may be available.

Essential Position Responsibilities/Functions

  • Guide the strategic direction, design, and day-to-day operation of the Rowan University website and systems.
  • Collaborate and communicate with university leadership and various high-level stakeholders to ensure alignment of the website with the University brand, its role in building the University’s reputation, and as a primary student and employee recruitment tool.
  • Lead a team of web specialists to deliver services in website design, development, systems management, content contribution strategy, SEO, UI/UX, and data analytics.
  • Develop a holistic strategy for website growth, sustainability, and maintenance in terms of both technology and content.
  • Measure and evaluate outcomes against strategic goals for web strategies and retarget team projects and tasks to better align future outcomes and goals.
  • Conduct regular analysis of the entire Rowan University website to include, but not limited to, analytics, SEO, regulatory compliance, security, design, planning, usability, implementation, and maintenance.
  • Manage simultaneous projects within the Web Services portfolio in an agile product development and deployment team operation.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations, including but not limited to, accessibility, accreditation, security, and privacy.
  • Develop communication plans for project deployment, site updates, and other changes and ensure that such communication are well broadcast to their target audiences.
  •  Oversee web-related governance including any related committees, policies, procedures, and project documentation.
  • Oversee technical support and training services for site contributors and other end users.
  • Manage the annual budget and the authorization of expenditure of funds for Web Services.
  • Manage relationships with various external stakeholders, consultants, and vendors.
  • Stay up to date with digital trends and best practices to continually improve the university website.

Qualifications

Required

  • A bachelor’s degree
  • A minimum of 5 years of proven experience leading teams focused on web design and development projects at large organizations.
  • Experience implementing change management and team-based, agile development and deployment methodologies.
  • Experience with web design and strategy to support marketing and recruiting campaigns.
  • Experience with web content management systems.
  • Experience with collaborating with organizational leadership and governance.
  • Proven understanding of web design standards, accessibility, analytics, SEO, and UI/UX design.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and a strong business acumen

Preferred

  • Related leadership experience in a post-secondary education work environment.
  • Master’s Degree
