Position Overview:

Recognized nationally for its innovation, commitment to high-quality and affordable education, and strong public-private partnerships, Rowan University is expanding its Virtual Reality (VR) initiatives as a learning platform.

With the rapid growth in campus projects, and investments in Virtual Reality as a learning platform, the need for a dedicated Game Developer has been highlighted.

The need for a dedicated professional has arisen to support these growing initiatives. The Immersive Experience Developer and Operations Assistant will play a pivotal role in developing and implementing Dreamscape VR content using the Unity engine, Dreamscape SDK and C#. This position will also entail assisting with the management and support of the free-roam and seated VR stations available at the South Jersey Technology Park and Campbell Library.

 

Responsibilities:
Immersive Experience Development:

  • Develop interactive and immersive courses into virtual reality using the Dreamscape SDK, Unity and C#.
  • Collaborate with the narrative, visualization and storyboard team to implement immersive VR experiences.
  • Implement C# code for networked multi-user VR environments, ensuring seamless and synchronized experiences.
  • Design and implement game design features for both Seated and Free- Roam Dreamscape.
  • Debug and optimize existing code for better performance and user experience.

Pod Operations:

  • Assist with the technical elements of Dreamscape Learn immersive spaces, diagnosing technical issues, submitting and diagnosing issues through support tickets.
  • Work with Dreamscape Learn to diagnose, troubleshoot and fix technical pod issues through their support portal.
  • Assist with training of student pod operators and supervise student pod operators.

 

Essential Duties:

  • Assist with supervising teams of student pod operator employees.
  • Troubleshoot VR equipment and engage the DSL Technical Support Help Desk when necessary.
  • Swap out defective equipment and handle the RMA process with external vendors.
  • Perform regular testing and maintenance of all VR pods and equipment.
  • Assist students and faculty with the utilization of pod technology for VR development projects or other projects using Dreamscape Learn technology.
  • Ensure appropriate opening and closing of the Dreamscape Learn facility.

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in or completion of a Master’s degree in engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Unity and C# for game development (3+ years experience).
  • Developing VR content for Meta Quest, HTC Vive, and Valve Index HMDs and environments (3+ years).
  • Demonstrated experience in providing operational leadership and excellent service.
  • 3+ years experience working with large-scale networked VR systems.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage tech needs and lead teams.
  • Proven ability to work independently and troubleshoot technical issues effectively.
  • Experience working with and managing student employees.
