Temporary Part-Time Hourly Lab Technician (Biomedical Sciences)

The Martinez Lab is seeking a research assistant/technician to help with the daily operations of the lab including running experiments related to sleep disorders, neuroscience, and cardiorespiratory disease.

The candidate will work closely with the principal investigator to work on an NIH- funded project, ensure efficient lab operations, and will have the opportunity to learn and gain experience in a wide range of laboratory methods. 

Essential Functions/Responsibilities:

  • Perform studies in rat models (in vivo and in vitro) including immunohistochemistry, western blot, other molecular methods.
  • Coordinate with team members and vendors to order laboratory supplies.
  • Prepare reagents according to established methods and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain records of lab-specific documents (lab notebooks, instrument logs, maintenance logs, chemical and biological safety manuals, etc.).
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and data analysis software.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for publications.
  • Good analytical and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, as well as, in a collaborative team environment.
  • To evaluate and implement new techniques to address research problems.
  • Handling of multiple tasks with strong attention to detail.
  • Strong willingness to explore and learn new laboratory procedures.

Education and/or Experience:

Bachelors' Degree in a relevant field such as Biology, Neuroscience, Physiology or other Life Sciences. Previous research experience is desirable but not required.

Flexible but fixed

Hours:

  • This temporary, part-time position is assigned no more than twenty-five (25) hours per week and is not to exceed 944 hours per fiscal year. Work is contracted annually to coincide with the fiscal year and is contingent upon budget appropriations.
