Postdoctoral Researcher in Neuropeptide Receptors in Pain and Addiction, CMSRU

The Fakira Lab at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral fellow to join our R01-funded research project focused on neuropeptide receptor function in the context of pain and addiction.

Our current project investigates a newly deorphanized G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) and its role in modulating opioid-receptor function. The successful candidate will lead in vitro, and in vivo experiments aimed at defining physical and functional interactions between these receptors and endogenous sources of the neuropeptide which activates the receptor.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Neuroscience, Pharmacology, or a related biomedical field.
  • Strong background in brain slice electrophysiology, chemogenetics, neuroanatomy, and synaptic tracing using mouse models.
  • Experience with biochemical assays (e.g., protein/RNA quantification), immunohistochemistry, microscopy, or in vitro techniques is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to design and execute experiments, analyze data critically, and develop testable hypotheses.
  • Must be self-directed, collaborative, and eager to learn new methods and drive the project forward efficiently.

Responsibilities:

  • Conduct and interpret studies using rodent models.
  • Collaborate with lab members and external investigators.
  • Present findings at meetings and contribute to manuscript preparation
  • Maintain accurate records and adhere to institutional research guidelines

Salary:

  • Salary for post-doctoral fellows is determined by NIH PGY level guidelines and based on years of experience post doctoral completion and is aligned to the prevailing AFT salary tables. In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is AFT: Range 18 ($60,654.29 to $66,166.40), with placement within the range determined by candidate's qualifications, professional experience, internal equity, and other factors.

    For internal applicants, salary is determined per the Pay Adjustment formula (NJAC 4A:3-4.9 & 4.10). Continued employment is contingent on funding and satisfactory progress.
