Job Description

 Job Title:                 Laboratory Technician                      

Department:             Neuroscience

Facility:                     Science Center           

Reports To:               Dr. Jessica Loweth, PhD, Associate Professor

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

 Performing basic biomedical scientific research tasks in the field of behavioral neuroscience

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Will conduct surgical procedures and behavioral testing in rats
  • Will perform biochemical studies to measure protein levels (western blotting)
  • Will prepare reagents, stains, and stock solutions and maintain lab inventories
  • Will assist in tissue fixation and sectioning on a cryostat and/or vibratome
  • Will assist in set-up, maintenance and operation of lab equipment
  • Will assist in recording and analyzing data 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: 

 Bachelor’s degree (concentration in Neuroscience, Psychology, Biology or related field preferred)

  • Previous lab experience & rat handling experience preferred

This is a full-time, temporary grant funded position, working 35 hours a week.  Duration of employment is between 1-3 years, or when funding ends.

Salary:

  • The starting rate is $21.24 per hour. Depending on experience, candidate may be hired at the "Job Rate" of $21.88 to start.
