Position Summary:
Reporting to the Vice Provost/Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, the Associate Provost for Academic Program Quality and Compliance oversees core academic functions relating to curricular processes and policies within the Office of the Provost. The Associate Provost for Academic Program Quality and Compliance works closely with offices and individuals responsible for accreditation, institutional effectiveness, and assessment to ensure alignment of academic strategic objectives and student outcomes achievement with program rigor and integrity.
This role brings innovative thinking to academic operations and contributes to our evolution toward R1 status. The Associate Provost brings success-driven urgency to launching new academic programs, developing curriculum, and fostering partnerships, often requiring diving into the details to ensure quality while maintaining momentum. In general, this leader helps to enhance our academic infrastructure by improving processes, reducing administrative burdens, and creating policies and systems that support both teaching excellence and research growth.
The Associate Provost must embrace the dynamic nature of an institution in transition and growth while focusing on the opportunities presented by our ambitious goals. The key to success is the ability to be equally comfortable working with academic departments on curriculum changes, partnering with faculty committees on policy development, and coordinating program development with strategic objectives while maintaining academic compliance. This means being able to build consensus among diverse stakeholders while maintaining forward momentum on complex initiatives.
The Associate Provost will be required to undertake complex challenges, from developing new program development processes to ensuring Rowan meets the rigorous standards expected of an R1 research university. This will require navigating competing priorities, translating between different academic cultures, and finding common ground when perspectives differ by bringing people together around shared goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitate and manage internal curriculum development and review processes in collaboration with the University Senate, Office of the University Registrar, Division of Rowan Online, School of Graduate Studies, and the academic Colleges and Schools
Facilitate accelerated strategic academic program development and approval via the Center for Academic Innovation
Facilitate curricular pathway development in collaboration with the University College, School of Professional Studies, Global Affairs, Student Access & Pathway Programs, and other liaisons
Support Board of Trustee and State-level curriculum processes
Support academic program review and revitalization initiatives, student retention initiatives, student learning outcomes assessment, and other forms of continuous improvement
Maintain the academic degree program inventory and other institutional reporting in collaboration with the Office of Institutional Research & Analytics
Manage the academic credential inventory in collaboration with the Office of the University Registrar and the Office of Financial Aid
Review, maintain, and/or develop curriculum-related academic policies in collaboration with the University Senate, Office of the University Registrar, and other applicable stakeholders
Required Qualifications:
- Doctoral or equivalent terminal degree
- Significant academic teaching, service, and administrative experience
- Significant experience with academic policies and operations
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills
- Outstanding interpersonal and collaborative skills
- Significant experience with composing and editing documents in accordance with technical writing standards and practices
- Significant experience with curriculum development, review, and approval processes
- Exceptional attention to detail, follow-through, and organization
- Ability to multitask and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic, growing environment
- Ability to work in cross-functional teams
- Ability to define priorities, objectives, roadmaps, timelines, and strategies and otherwise function with a high degree of autonomy

- Familiarity with Banner, Canvas, OnBase, Modern Campus, and/or other academic systems and platforms
- Strong interest in the evolution of higher education and adaptation to emerging opportunities

Salary:
In compliance with The State of New Jersey's Pay Transparency Act, the annual base salary range for this position is $150,000 and 170,000. When extending any salary offer, Rowan University considers many factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, work experience, education, training, key skills, internal equity, as well as market and other organizational considerations.
