The Henry M. Rowan College of Engineering was founded in 1995 and quickly gained national recognition for its innovative multidisciplinary, project-based approach to engineering education, establishing itself as a national leader in engineering education. In 2013, the State of New Jersey designated Rowan University a comprehensive research university, and in 2017 our university was recognized as a Carnegie-classified research institution. During that period, Rowan Engineering doubled both its full-time faculty and student population, as well as started its engineering PhD programs. In 2017, we opened the doors of Engineering Hall and, in 2023, completed a full renovation of our original home, Rowan Hall. These projects tripled our available space and provided the College with state-of-the-art research and teaching facilities. The College currently enrolls over 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students in six departments and is home to five research centers. Further information about the College is available at https://engineering.rowan.edu.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering is home to roughly 350 undergraduates, 75 MS/PhD students, 15 faculty members, and 4 staff members. The ME undergraduate program has consistently received high recognition from employers and academic peers with its multidisciplinary “Engineering Clinics” as a hallmark. We seek to further strengthen our graduate research and teaching, while maintaining the excellence of the undergraduate program, through multiple faculty hiring. Some major research strengths of the department include advanced manufacturing, materials science & engineering, soft robotics, and thermal-fluid sciences. Many of our faculty are core team members of the Digital Engineering Hub (DEHub) and the Advanced Materials & Manufacturing Institute (AMMI) at Rowan University. Newly-hired faculty members will complement and expand research expertise in the department and build strong connections with government/industry in the region and beyond.
A top 100 national public research institution, Rowan University offers bachelor’s through doctoral and professional programs in person and online to nearly 25,000 students. The fastest-growing public research institution in the Northeast and among the country’s top 10 fastest-growing, Rowan offers a thriving multidisciplinary environment with a strong emphasis on practical research in health care, engineering, science and business, while ensuring excellence in undergraduate education. Nationally recognized for innovation, high-quality, affordable education and public-private partnerships, Rowan is one of two universities in the U.S. to offer M.D., D.O. and D.V.M. degree programs.
