The Shreiber School of Veterinary Medicine (SSVM) at Rowan University is seeking an experienced Veterinary Anesthesiologist to join our growing Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Position Summary
The successful candidate will provide comprehensive veterinary anesthesiology services within the SSVM Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital while contributing to clinical teaching, student mentorship, and continued service excellence.
The Anesthesiology Service is actively seeing patients and has established clinical workflows, referral relationships, and hospital support systems. The successful candidate will join a functioning specialty service with the opportunity to contribute to continued growth, expanded clinical capabilities, and educational excellence.

Anesthesia and Pain Management at SSVM
The Anesthesia and Pain Management Service provides comprehensive perioperative care for companion animals and exotic patients while supporting SSVM’s mission to develop confident, practice-ready veterinarians.
The service is designed to:
- Deliver individualized, evidence-based anesthetic and analgesic care
- Provide preanesthetic evaluation, anesthetic planning, advanced monitoring, and postanesthetic management
- Support acute and chronic pain management using multimodal approaches
- Collaborate closely with surgical, dental, diagnostic imaging, and other clinical services
- Promote patient safety through standardized protocols, quality improvement, and thoughtful case review
- Provide outstanding clinical learning experiences for students and trainees
- Advance clinical scholarship and innovation in veterinary anesthesia and analgesia
The Anesthesia and Pain Management Service is supported by:
- Experienced veterinary technicians and clinical support staff

Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive anesthesia, analgesia, and perioperative care for patients across hospital services
- Perform preanesthetic evaluations, develop individualized anesthetic plans, and oversee advanced physiologic monitoring and recovery
- Provide consultation for acute and chronic pain management
- Support anesthetic care for routine, complex, and high-risk procedures
- Collaborate with primary care and specialty clinicians to provide integrated patient care
- Develop, implement, and evaluate anesthesia, analgesia, patient-safety, and perioperative protocols
- Participate in clinical teaching and mentorship of veterinary students, interns, residents, and veterinary technology students
- Contribute to anesthesia curriculum development, simulation, clinical skills instruction, and assessment
- Support the professional development and clinical training of veterinary technicians and other hospital colleagues
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, morbidity and mortality review, and service development
- Engage in scholarly activity or clinical research consistent with individual interests
- Contribute positively to a collaborative and supportive hospital culture
Required Qualifications
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree
- Completion of a veterinary anesthesia and analgesia residency or comparable specialty training program
- Board certification or board eligibility through the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia (ACVAA) or equivalent
- Eligibility for veterinary licensure in New Jersey
- Demonstrated expertise in veterinary anesthesia, analgesia, and perioperative patient management
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate within a multidisciplinary specialty hospital
- Strong interest in clinical teaching and mentorship
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous teaching, mentoring, or academic experience
- Experience managing complex or high-risk anesthesia cases
- Interest in anesthesia and analgesia education, simulation, or clinical skills instruction
- Interest in clinical research or scholarly activity
- Experience developing clinical protocols, patient-safety programs, or quality improvement initiatives
- Interest in advancing academic specialty practice within a collaborative environment
Salary and Benefits
In accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Act, the anticipated salary range for this position is $150,000–$200,000 annually, commensurate with qualifications, experience, clinical expertise, academic rank, appointment track, and appointment percentage. Final salary will be determined at the time of offer.
Faculty at Rowan University are represented by the AAUP and receive a comprehensive benefits package in accordance with collective bargaining agreements and State of New Jersey benefit programs. Benefits eligibility is based on appointment percentage and applicable University policies.

Academic Appointment
This is an open-rank faculty appointment (Instructor through Full Professor) available on either the Clinical Track or Tenure Track, depending on qualifications, experience, and professional goals.
Both full-time and part-time appointments will be considered. Faculty rank, appointment track, responsibilities, and effort allocation will be determined at the time of appointment based on the successful candidate's qualifications, career interests, and the needs of the School.
