Examples of Duties:

Duties/essential functions may include, but not be limited to, the following:
Maintains, installs, repairs, and replaces plumbing equipment (e.g., water and steam lines, trap fittings, plumbing fixtures, regulators, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, etc.).
Maintains, installs, troubleshoots, repairs, and replaces electrical equipment (e.g., light fixtures, electrical outlets, switches, motors, electrical circuits, etc.); may install wiring and cable for audio, video, and electrical systems.
Maintains, installs, repairs, alters, and replaces doors, windows, walls, steps, floors, paneling, stairways, chalkboards, furniture, etc.; replaces bricks, blocks and tile; installs security devices and locks.
Performs exterior grounds keeping duties (e.g., cuts grass; cleans sidewalks; removes snow and ice from walkways, driveways, and parking lots).
Performs interior custodial duties (e.g., mops, sweeps, waxes floors, washes walls and windows, etc.).
Paints fixtures, rooms, buildings, signs and equipment; patches plaster and prepares surfaces for painting.
Performs preventative maintenance and minor repairs on grounds keeping equipment (e.g., tractors, snow plows, mowing equipment, etc.).
Sets up equipment and furniture for Kent State University events; receives shipments; loads and unloads trucks; moves furniture; may order custodial and maintenance supplies and maintain inventory.
May assist other skilled trades persons and drive vehicle to pick up and deliver personnel and materials.
May train and direct student or temporary employees; may participate in training new employees.
Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:
|
A minimum of two years experience in building and maintenance repair (e.g., electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc.) or equivalent combination of education and experience which provides comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities.
License/Certification:
Valid Ohio driver's license, if required by position.
Knowledge Of:
Electrical wiring, plumbing, carpentry, painting, etc. Safety practices
Skill In:
Use of hand and power tools Operation of related equipment (e.g., tractors, snow plows, mowing equipment, fork lift, etc.)
Ability To:
Demonstrate mechanical aptitude to include skill in building and equipment maintenance and repair. Diagnose problems and determine appropriate action Interpret and apply blueprints and schematic diagrams Demonstrate physical dexterity and lift 100 pounds Work in high places, tunnels, and crawl spaces Read (e.g., work orders, repair manuals), write (e.g., materials requests), and accurately follow oral, written, and graphic instructions Perform basic mathematics (e.g., add, subtract, multiply, and divide whole numbers, fractions, and decimals, and to calculate percentages)

Working Conditions / Physical Requirements:
|
Exposed to dirt, odors, moisture/wetness, variable temperatures and weather conditions, loud equipment noise, potentially dangerous equipment (e.g., hand and power tools), light chemical substances (e.g., cleaning solutions), electricity and occasional high voltage; requires considerable physical exertion to include frequent lifting of 75 pounds (e.g., to unload trucks, asphalt/concrete bags, refuse containers), occasional lifting up to 100 pounds, climbing ladders, and assuming awkward positions for extended periods of time; may work varied hours and shifts to include evenings, weekends, and holidays; may require on- and off-campus travel.
