This recruitment is open to current University of San Diego tenured faculty only.
The Director for Undergraduate Research will provide strategic vision, management, and leadership necessary to support all aspects of undergraduate research. The Director will plan, direct and administer existing programming, including undergraduate research programs, workshops, conferences, community partnerships, etc. The Director will seek out funding opportunities and community partners, and facilitate institutional grants that support undergraduate research. The Director will develop, implement and assess the efficacy of workshops, online networking tools, and programming aimed at facilitating, enhancing, and broadening opportunities for meaningful and inclusive undergraduate research across campus. The Director will implement best practices to increase accessibility and visibility of research opportunities, and foster an inclusive community of researchers and research endeavors, in line with the university's mission. The Director will promote a campus culture that values undergraduate research as a high-impact practice that enhances the education and experience of undergraduates and faculty.
The Director reports directly to and works under the general supervision of the Vice Provost for Research and Administration.
The Director directly supervises an Undergraduate Research Coordinator and Federal Work Study student employees.
The appointment will start on August 1, 2025. This position is renewable on an annual basis up to three years. The Director will serve an estimated 2 months in the summer in the years following.

Job Requirements:
|
- Tenured faculty member with a rank of associate or full professor
- A combination of at least six years of teaching and mentoring students in undergraduate research at an accredited institution of higher education
- An excellent record of mentoring undergraduates in research and engaged participation in undergraduate research programming
- Experience in successfully securing funds to support undergraduate and/or faculty research
- Successful administrative experience and promotion of professional development in higher education
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate across units to improve efficiency and effectiveness of university procedures, programs, etc.
- Demonstrated ability to collaboratively lead and manage teams, programs, etc. and/or a minimum of two years of academic leadership experience
- Demonstrated commitment to research excellence and innovation
- Well versed in undergraduate research as a high-impact practice for student learning, retention, and post-graduation success
