Department Description:

The Helen K. and James S. Copley Library, located on the west end of the campus, currently houses over 500,000 volumes. Collections include books, journals, reference works, databases, government documents, newspapers and electronic journals in many languages, as well as maps, videos, sound recordings, microforms and rare books.

Detailed Description:

This is a part-time, temporary, non benefit-based position with an anticipated end date of May 20, 2026. The appointment is renewable at the discretion of the University and dependent upon performance and continued funding.

Copley Library’s Department of Collections, Access and Discovery seeks a reliable, punctual, and enthusiastic Access Services Supervisor to staff the library’s Welcome Desk up to 15 hours per week. This position reports to the Head of Access and Outreach Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Monitoring all second-floor spaces, including study room reservations and use;
  • Assisting patrons with using library spaces in accordance with Copley Library policies; answering patrons’ questions, and providing clear information, referrals, and directions as needed;
  • Enforcing all library policies in a courteous and professional manner;
  • Assisting in the day-to-day supervision of Copley Library Student Assistants;
  • Assisting other Access Services Supervisors in maintaining a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons.

Special Conditions of Employment:

  • Must be able to work alternative overnight hours for two weeks each semester during our 24/7 study period and be flexible to accommodate abbreviated hours of operation when classes are not in session.

Background check:  Successful completion of a pre-employment background check.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes. 

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Must have a high school diploma/GED.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and Google Workspace, including Gmail.

Performance Expectations - Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Punctual and reliable attendance.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to learn an automated library system to loan items and execute service-related tasks.
Posting Salary:

$18.99 - $19.00 per hour

The salary range provided in this posting reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this position.  Actual compensation offered or earned is dependent on experience, education and other factors including departmental budget.
